Discuss the sport you love with other motorsport fans

Utter nonsense Hammer! Ron in the same interview said there will be more championships in the future, which kind of counters the only win races claim.

Look you can have your petty and BITTER view of one of the greatest teams in the sports history. That's fine, come next year I cannot wait to hear you moan some more and the excuses you come up with about Mercedes. The only good thing about Lewis leaving McLaren is he will take his fanboys with him!

Good riddance! :cloud9:

Honestly bud, I don't expect Ron to be honestly honest. I mean, "We were once a great team which used to go for glory every year, however since the recent financial slump it seems we have tuned down our ambitions to winning races and pretending to go for Championships" rings a bit jaded for all the sponsors they have conned, don't you think?

You're right about them being one of the greatest teams in history, but that's history. :)

Come next year, I hope you stick around so I see your posts when Lewis outqualifies at least 1 McLaren and outraces at least 1 McLaren in nearly every race. In fact, I won't be surprised one bit if he ends up in front of at least 1 McLaren in the standings. I'm loving the fact that Merc are simply using these last races as test sessions, they were in position to win races early this season by doing much less in 2011 so I very much look forward to your posts when the season starts in 2013.

I'm sure there will be lots of emotion next Sunday, on both sides.
When the Truth said :wavey-finger: to Mclaren, I think he was expressing his own feelings regarding McLaren, not those of Lewis Hamilton...that's how I took it anyway.

That's right of course, RC, but who could blame him if he did? And I don't mind those especially bitter McLaren-types, 'cause how would you feel if your team had just committed one of the biggest, most-widely ridiculed blunders in F1 history? Of course some of them are going to be :censored: about it all. And good riddance to them, "fer sure good buddy," (as the long-road truckers used to say when I visited my friend in Texas years ago). It's obvious that history is going to look upon this iteration of the McLaren team as one of the most inept of all time. The interesting thing to me is, what is history going to conclude was motivating them? Fascinating to watch, in all its dimensions of undeniable talent, genius, race, class, non-American culture (from an American perspective), money, and on and on it goes. Someone someday will write the definitive book on the subject, until then, we get to talk trash across the interwaves. :D

Anyway, with the season almost over, I want to say thanks again RC, because it was one of your comments -- when I googled Lewis Hamilton one time -- there was a "racechick" from a "Formula1.com," defending Lewis (very eloquently, I might add), and that led me to this site, where there are plenty of knowledgeable, passionate, and all-around EXCELLENT, LH fans, that made this journey with Lewis fun, and a lot less :banghead: , like it could have been otherwise. So thanks a million, all. I never know when I'm going to actually post/say anything (although I try to stop in and keep current, even when I don't comment much). So don't know if I'll be commenting again or not, but in any event -- :grouphug: .

It's kind of an italicized font on the thank you... It's probably sarcasm. :hehe::twisted:

Imagine being in McLaren and losing someone of Lewis's quality?
I still can't believe they actually let Lewis walk.....

Anyway, looking forward to Qualifying tomorrow. Lewis for pole imo. :D

I don't think it is as simple as "just letting him walk" I think the relationship has been breaking down for a few years, I am sure also that there is no innocent party either.

Since Button showed up, with his delusions.
This is when Lewis and McLaren started to go wrong imo.

Lewis always should have been Number 1 at McLaren, like Alonso is at Ferrari and Seb is at Red Bull.
McLaren listened to Button too much, but they'll regret it imo.

If they'd concentrated on exactly that, equal status, I think they may have faired a little better. But there's still no getting away from the catalogue of errors, without which Lewis would have had this championship sewn up by now...equal status or not.

Lewis this year drove better than ever before. Mercedes has scored a tremendous coup luring him to their cause.

In 2010, Lewis as well as a few others, was in contention for a WDC, and he certainly lost that battle because of the amount of self induced mistakes borne out of frustration, he had a clear shot at a title and blew it. This year, from the beginning of the season, it was McLaren's double championship to lose, and they've managed to lose both of them. Even through their mid year slump, Lewis managed to bring the car high enough on the grid and even score a podium or two which is what you've got to do when the team is struggling. It's what Alonso has done and it's why Alonso is in contention. It kept Lewis close as well... however, McLaren managed to give Lewis a defective car five races in a row, and in that time he's left at least 80 points on the table that were his for the taking. Points Vettel and Alonso wouldn't have scored. No matter how well you're driving, you can't win if your car won't get you to the finish line.

We should have been watching a fantastic three way shoot out today.

Can't agree he blew it in 2010. He made no more, probably less, errors than the other championship contenders. But people tend to be more critical of any error Lewis makes and to forget those of others. 2011 yes he made more errors, but it was out if utter frustration at the speed of the red bull. And he wouldn't have won even without the errors, the bull was too fast.

I was holding him up to a higher standard.
