a reliable gearbox and a slew of upgrades... oy vey.
ESPNF1 Mercedes has found a solution for Nico Rosberg's gearbox issues at the British Grand Prix as well as adding performance to the W05 ahead of the German Grand Prix.

Rosberg retired from the lead at Silverstone when his gearbox failed and he was forced to park his car on lap 29. Mercedes technical boss Paddy Lowe said the team had been working on a solution in the following week and has also added performance upgrades to the car after testing at Silverstone last week.

"The main priority of the days since [the British Grand Prix] has been to understand the gearbox problem we saw with Nico's car and to make sure there is no recurrence moving forwards," Lowe said. "As with any such scenario, a lot of work has been put into rectifying the issue and we head to Hockenheim with a remedy in place.

"We will also be bringing a number of other upgrades evaluated during the Silverstone test last week, so we look forward to the next race in the hopes of both improved performance and a more robust package from a reliability perspective."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said he was looking forward to the next round of the championship with his drivers, Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, now separated by just four points in the championship standings.

"We head to Germany and the home race of Mercedes-Benz with the championship battle as close as it has been between our two drivers," Wolff said. "This is an important weekend for them and equally so for the team, so we will be pushing harder than ever to make sure both cars take the best results. The next chapter in this fascinating contest awaits us and we are determined to put on a strong show."

Interesting how Merc have effectively become Mclaren and hijacked the best elements since grabbing Lewis - star driver - check, star engineer - check, star sponsor - check, star engine - check. Its obvious that there is an element of payback for effectively getting screwed by Ron on the one sided Merc/Mclaren deal for years.
And now Ron has a chance to win the next round with Honda in place, retained independence and a thriving sports car rival.

Yeah they started out almost bullet proof and now getting more unreliable. I don't understand how that works.

Don't know where the full interview is at, but Merc fanpage posted this.

Niki Lauda: "McLaren have the same engine as us and the car is
s**t, Where are they? Nowhere. Watch the Ferrari: another f***ing
car. Next year will be difference because they can change half the
engine. You cannot penalise Brixworth because others are stupid.
Banning FRIC to slow down the Merc boys?
What next? Ban the Mercedes engine?

It's funny what a difference of opinion the Tifosi have, they feel the only reason that they're on the back foot because they're not allowed to develop their engine.

First of all, that is an excerpt (i.e., taken out of context) from El Pais and here's the link: http://www.gazzetta.it/Formula-1/20-07- ... 0168.shtml
Here's the link where Lauda apologizes to Ferrari, di Montezemolo and all Italians: http://www.gazzetta.it/Formula-1/22-07- ... 5415.shtml
Apparently, he realized after the article was posted just how he sounded and chose to take his foot out of his mouth!

Secondly, it's not funny to watch a team flounce off into the sunset unscathed and unchallenged thanks to rules that don't allow anyone else to play catch up. I completely understand the dissention amongst the ranks during the years when Ferrari/Schumi were the most successful team on the grid; but, to be fair, ALL teams had the OPPORTUNITY to keep developing their P/U and ALL teams had the OPPORTUNITY to keep testing in order to catch up. The deck was NOT stacked by the rules (i.e., limited testing, development limited to reliability issues) in favour of the ONE team who got it right, at the beginning of the season.

Will I be a hypocrite and say that it would be different if it were Ferrari wearing Mercedes brake pads?
No, I won't; but, I wouldn't kick anyone when they were down, as Mr. Lauda obviously did.

Karma's a b.i.a.t.c.h.!!
