Yes I would place Seb in the same camp as Lewis. He likes to win every corner every race and he is superfast. The other camp dont rely on speed more on a longer term campaigning, caution and points harvesting

I know that when I watch a particular race at a particular track, Id rathe see the driver going all out for the win. I would enjoy it less with a driver avoiding risk, driving conservatively with an eye toward the WDC in 6 or 7 months.

Watching a small part of a campaign is not really what it used to be like when each race was a Grand Price in itself. Winning each race should be the end all and be all. They should make a race win 50 points and second 15, or they should bring the medals system back. Instead lets make the last race double points :yikes:

Alonso bides his time in a race and eeks his way up. Raikkonen is similar. They appear on the podium out of nowhere.

Fair enough, but using that method they have absolutely zero chance of beating Seb in a 2 sec car.

Lets not forget that Alonso, biding his time at Abu Dhabi 2010 and eeking his way, got a touch of the heebie jeebies when confronted by a rookie called Petrov who is not even deemed worthy of a drive at the moment

Alonso is your ultimate journeyman, relentless and consistent. He would not have taken on the reigning WDC at the first corner in his first race as a rookie. As for Kimi he has the skill and talent but again is a compromiser, a settler for points, a journeyman

yes the recent F1 era flatters these types, tyre/fuel savers by default because they dont challenge.

Guys like Lewis, Senna, Villenevue, Kobayashi, Kubica will always be the best because they are what the audience want to see, and so the regs will eventually swing back to them

I hardly see Alonso as a journeyman, at least by the definition we use here in NA. In hockey the term journeyman is used to describe a player of average skill who works hard to stay in the game. From his meteoric rise to the top, 2 WDCs against strong competition, and being in the hunt until the last race for 3 more, I see nothing average about him. Even this year despite having at best a mediocre car, he often drove aggressively finishing ahead of good drivers in better cars. Alonso is more of a big picture driver than Seb or Lewis, but that doesn't make him a journeyman. Give him a better car when he came into the sport, and yes he would have taken on the reigning WDC in the first corner.

Yeah, admittedly the term journeyman has different meaning to its literal translation. Maybe campaigner is better than journeyman. Campaigner vs battler
Still a Alonso is the ultimate long game player, and I can't help but like him, he is like a relentless pest you can never get rid of. However I maintain that Lewis and Seb have a healthier approach, they want to win now, today instead of suppress winning instinct with intellectualism and logic.
It's easier to acquire the logic patience and long term thinking than it is to acquire the sheer speed that comes with an instinct to be faster at all times than the next guy

If Webber was a better driver Seb wouldn't have four straight titles.

And, if Anthony Hamilton said he didn't lie, he'd be a dishonest man.
