On a err slightly cheerier note (pending on perspective) I was roped in (they needed me to make up the numbers) into a debating tournament on the Saturday just gone (5/12/09).
One round was a "long prep" (you knew your topic before hand, although the position you'd be in for it was given 15 minutes before the debate) with the "others short prep" (you learn the topic and position 15mins before you speak for 5).

Anyway, first round we assumed would be the long prep topic, turns out we were wrong and only realised when the debate just started, but somehow or another (tbf the other teams in that round hadn't done debating before) we won. 2nd round therefore saw up against the other teams who had managed to win their round and was the long prep motion, we took second. Third round we also took second.

Our points score was strong enough to take us to the semis, where well we lost, don't know the position but lower than the top two teams in our semi final (so third or fourth then). Although one of the teams who made it to the final was a team we had beaten in the second round (they finished lower than us).

Overall we came 6th out of 32 and I was the 11th best individually out of 64.

Also a note, we were up again some of those really elite London schools(st Paul's boys and girls school, Westminster etc)

I went for my first PGCE interview on Wednesday and it was absolutely hideous. I got asked far too many biology questions and all I could think was "I'm a physicist damn it, ask me physics!". They gave me no time to prepare, I got my interview letter before I even got my welcome letter, and then was off for the interview a few days later. All I can imagine is that they're more desperate for Physics teachers than I thought because I checked the tracking system yesterday and it's already been updated with them giving me an offer :yikes:

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going on my first ride-along with the Sugar Land Police Dept this saturday  .

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072226/:wink:

Sugar Land not Sugarland you big silly :hehe: . Wow it was fantastic and what a small world it is because my FTO (Field Training Officer) is a graduate of my academy. No 8 month academy could have prepared or taught me what I learned in just one 8hr shift. We made numerous safety violation stops but wrote only one ticket.

I"M GONNA LUV THIS JOB!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you get people comparing you to Nazis and stuff?

:hehe: No thank god.

remind me to avoid suger land if i ever go to the US.

I'll mail you one "get out of jail free" card  . I won't be working for them because I do not meet their college hr requirements and have no military, they are kinda picky there.

Just returned home from my ride-along with the Stafford PD and it was fantastic!! Once again I rode with a former graduate from my academy, his cousin is in my class aswell, and 4 of the other 5 officers on the 2-10pm shift also graduated from UHD so once again we had alot in common and got along swimmingly. The Stafford PD is much more laidback than the Sugar Land PD and is now in the top 3 of my choices.

I will be starting my application process shortly with Stafford in preparation for my graduation on May 7th. :cloud9:
