even with subliminal logos which one could say isnt showing Marlboros logo, which isnt direct sponsorship then why is the team title Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro ? This makes their budget and the way they spend it, driver contracts, developments illegal.

Can someone post the actual rule(s)/reg(s) against tobacco sponsorship? What is and isn't banned/allowed?

Tobacco advertisment is banned in the EU. Advertising therefore is defined as marketing a product via sponsorship. There is no denying Ferraris logo is there for their title sponsor as Ferrari have their own logo which they place in the top "Marlboro chevron"

this is the Scuderia Ferrari logo

Other teams lost out on their sponsorship money, Renault were hit the hardest, Struggling to get another title sponsor, ING came in for a wee bit but nothing compared to the money they got from Mild Seven. McLaren did alright after losing West, getting Vodafone who thought they were in prime place to be title sponsors for Ferrari once the ban came into affect in 2007. Ferrari seem to have a rules onto themselves for some things.

It doesn't just resemble a Chevron, but the whole Marlboro logo - even the Marlboro text itself. It's all about how the logo looks from far away (i.e. on TV). When you're watching cars go by at 100-200mph, it really doesn't matter what the logo actually says - only what it generally looks like. It's the exact same principle behind the "barcode" (even though it really wasn't a barcode). Just maybe tempered a bit so the FIA has less to complain about.

Is there an actual rule, either FiA or EU that Ferrari are breaking? Surely they would be in deep shinola if they were? Can a rule or reg be quoted?

My view on smoking.....

:yikes: cigarets are 5 dollars a pack! I had no clue.

In PA maybe - in NY they are over 8.

WTF? How do people afford the habit? No wonder people turn to meth.

It's the states mind you who get the extra cash via imposing extra taxes on every pack.
Nah, just grow your own pot and smoke it - it's cheaper! :hippy:
Come think of it: how about a livery with this?

TOBACCO SPONSORSHIP

On legal advice the FIA has withdrawn the ban on tobacco sponsorship in motor sport voted in October, 2000 (for implementation in 2006) and substituted the following as a recommendation:

that motor sport promoters and competitors (including circuit owners, event organisers, teams, and drivers) should cease all forms of tobacco sponsorship from October 1, 2006.

we are in 2011 aren't we? :hehe:

You're not reading it right, this was just a snippet from the WMSC meeting in 2003. The recommendation is the implantation of the ban for 2006, which they ended up voting for. I mean its not a recommendation for the EU nations to have this ban, it is a solid ban, just as it is( meant to be) in the FIA sports.

Apparently, one in three people develop cancer in their lives.

As such i think the smoking cancer correlation is grossly inflated. Theres people living past 100 who smoke.
