I have said many times, we don't need moveable wings or KERS, what we need is wider and lower cars, wider tyres, and less aero reliance + more freedom in design, basically take a step back in time, there never used to be a problem with overtaking, the problem was created by the hundreds of changes in enforced car design as dictated by the FIA that created the problem in the first place! Technology is not always the answer to the problem but again the FIA can't see it!

I totally agree with you on this. Bring back ground effect and movable skirts. Wider tyres, I doubt it is an option if the FIA want to cut costs.

In a recent interview, Pat Symonds, who was on the working committee looking into how to make overtaking more achievable in F1, said that they found that ground effects (body aeros) were counter productive to overtaking.

And that was banned also!:hehe:

So it must need some kind of sonar or something to tell how close the car ahead is and tell some computer either on board or at the pit wall to allow the wing change. What happened to controlling expense and complexity? Then once the pass is made, the roles are reversed. And another pass. No net change.
I also don't like the allowing of KERS(I have no issue with the KERS itself) because the poor teams won't have it. What happened to levelling the playing field?

Do you get the feeling there will be post-race protests time penalities imposed after Bahrain GP. Both KERS and moveable rear wing are basically "Push to Pass" devices, so treat them as such and not introduce artificial constraints. Allow a set number of timed intervals per race for each so drivers and teams can develope race strategy. Give cars without KERS more rear wing time to level playing field. I fear the 1 second rule and new found power of stewards will lead to .............................................

Ah who cares, this sport has become more and more of a farce at every turn anyway.

Then don't bother watching it anymore.

You don't agree that Bernie and his cronies have in small steps added spectacle by artificial means at the expense of pure competition? And by spectiacal I don't mean that spectacle itself is bad, but the way they've gone about it...
And wholly inconsitent rule enforcement smacks of manipulation does it not?

I don't want to get into details but I'm currently making my way through the 1980's championship reviews (Just started 84 last night) and to be honest the sport has come on a long way in every way other than the overkill aero development that has hampered overtaking.

Whether you like it or not any sport has it's problems and the one's in F1 are currently in my opinion, money and overtaking which are not that bad.

The breakaway is money related, that can be solved and the overtaking issues are currently being tackled by regulation changes.

And this season was fantastic even if the last race was a procession.

I fully agree with you. Rules must be more consistent and his enforcement must follow far clearer application. Instead of that, many times they enforce the rules and punish the drivers to artificially add emotion to the competition. I mean that they manipulate races for making F1 more interesting for the fans. They should change that.

who will not be able to trigger their own wing device in defence

Are they trying to copy the indy cars "power to pass light"

It should be decided by the driver, that way there will be a larger margin of error. (Braking zone will change when the wing is at less drag)

I understand that KERS has to "generate" the power, but the wing should be controlled like the F-duct was, anytime.
