here's my issue with what you're saying... Americans already WERE on the moon, they're still the only ones that have been there. That's not likely to change in the near future. I have no issue with the Russians or the Chinese or the Indians doing it if that's what they wish to do. I see your point of the technical superiority but we're never going to be one planet, one people if technology is horded by one entity. What good would it have done to keep the internet as American only technology? I'm sure the Russians and the Chinese will do it cheaper that we've done it. As a technology becomes commonplace it spreads but it also dilutes.
Frankly I'd rather see America become a global leader in alternative energy solutions than in rocketry but sadly my wish has even less likelihood of it happening than yours.
