Bernie Ecclestone has backed Michael Schumacher for the 2010 championship after the German announced his return to Formula One earlier this week.

Mercedes confirmed Schumacher's comeback on Wednesday, which will see him paired with Nico Rosberg in an all-German team. In an interview with Formula One's official website, Ecclestone was confident Schumacher would be a threat for the title.

"Forget about winning races - I have him on my bill for winning the championship," Ecclestone said. "He will be of immense value for the team to push the development of the car. We have all seen in the past that he was never satisfied unless the car was in perfect condition. With his drive for the optimum and his deep technical understanding he will save the team precious time. Nico Rosberg will be the one who will directly benefit from all this."

Ecclestone also said the news was good for the sport, after it endured a tough year of manufacturer withdrawals and headline grabbing scandal in the form of Crashgate.

"I always said that Formula One is a strong brand," he added. "It has demonstrated time and again that it can pull itself up by its own bootstraps. And yes, all indications point to a jaw-dropping season. Fans will love it. I think it is fantastic for Formula One that he turned into a 'comeback kid'. But at the same time I also think that it's good for Michael."

Arny lighten up - what's with all that bottled up anger? Up your dosage and you'll be better

To a certain point I agree with you, I am very angry about this change, too many people up their dosage without speaking their mind, and it ends up with others like Schumacher getting away with bad insulting behaviour.

I would have had a lot more respect for Schumacher, had he returned and started again at the bottom or with a none winning team, as every other driver has to do whether starting or in this case returning to F1, this way he would prove once and for all, how good he really is, and this would have also proved that the maturing of age, he had now learnt to behave like a gentleman
Instead he has dropped Ferrari, who offered him a seat back in the Summer 2009 his excuse being a bad neck.:yawn:
Braun comes up with a Winning Team, suddenly the neck is better.
I wonder how you would all feel, now that Red Bull has a car to be reckoned with, and Coulthard suddenly decided to jump back into the drivers seat, ditching one of the Red Bull drivers.

We all have to face it, Michael Schumacher, is without doubt, one of the most disliked drivers that F1 has ever known, and this has been brought about due to his self opinionated: (“Get out of my way”) un-gentlemanly dishonest way he drives a car as well as the way he behaves when out of the car.

And Braun should be seriously addressed for encouraging this sought of rude behaviour.

Had Schumacher returned to F1 by telling Ferrari that WHEN his neck was OK, (If there ever was such a thing) he would then drive for Ferrari, or any other none winning team, this way it would avoid shoving a younger driver out of F1, then he would have gained my respect, instead he has gone further to prove what a selfish man this Schumacher is.

Sure I’m angry as many others are, but being Irish I speak my mind, as they should.
A dosage does not help me through my anger, but I’ll tell you what does, I think that Schumacher will end up with egg on his face, mark my words when your watching F1 next Autumn, I will then be posting here again.

“A Merry Christmas” :fatherchristmas: to all the Fans of F1 and thanks to members of this forum for some very interesting, educational reading material.

Best Regards,

I'm american and I speak my mind aswell and I think you are in denial :hehe: .

If that is the case why do you speak through a boring Cliché, that's not being outspoken. that’s only hiding behind
someone else’s words.
But if you insist that we speak with forked tongue, I would say that Schumacher fits your Cliché perfectly, may I take
this opportunity to thank you for bringing this to my notice
SO
Happy Christmas.

The king of F1 is back. Very good.........Maybe? I am confused. Not sure if I should be happy or sad but I have been thinking about this for days. I guess I'll just wait for the 2010 season to begin and see what happens. I like and have always liked all things German but Schumi is a Ferrari legend. In this case Senna comes to mind. He was and always will be a Mclaren legend even if he ended his career at Williams. I know the same will be the case for Schumi. But I can see him do well at Merc. Afterall Schumi is German and he surely must have the urge to win at least something for a German team. If I were a sports person of a given disapline and had represented an Italian team for years and then towards the end of my career got a chance to represent Slovenija I would do it as well. So to Schumi all the best for 2010. I will support him and Mercedes Second to Ferrari.

Senna always said that he would never lift off and end up taking people off because next time they would let him through

If Hamilton and Schumi collided, those exact words would be Hamilton's excuse.

Schumi would probably just say "I didn't do it". :P

hey its a good excuse.

Or he could try the Bart Simpson excuse: "it was like that when I got here". Or the Homer Simpson excuse: "it's my first day". :P

I don't think either will win the world title. My pick is on Alonso for this season :)

Don't often agree with you on lewis, but yeah I think lewis will beat him and I'm looking foreward to seeing him race. I think the mercedes will be weaker than the mclaren until next year at least where they'll have the resources to put into the car. What will be telling about their future potential will be their development curve this year, once brawn had to fend for themselves and not off the back of hondas car they did have problems.
