Well, your statement about him not being up there with the current young guns makes even less sense :P

Michael retiring in the first place makes even less sense again if he comes back... My fear is if he comes back he won't be on the pace and will struggle for the year or even worse walk away from the drive mid season.

I've been left emotionally unstable after Hill in 99.

I felt that for quite a while after Hill left, the feeling that things didn't feel the same without him. :(

I didn't really watch F1 for 4-5 years after Hill left... :-(

thats a shame because from 2000-2004 this guy called Micheal Schumacher won everything and it was really great and not boring at all.

2004 was utter domination from Ferrari. They scored more points in that season than the rest of the teams put together!

Just out of interest, if Schumacher did win an 8th title, will that alter your view of him in a great way?

It's interesting because it's all been "he's got everything to lose, and nothing to gain", but I've asked a few around the McLaren Forum, especially the those critical of him, and they say that IF he did win another title they would hold him in such high esteem that they'd hold him in higher mantle than Prost, and Senna.

Shumacher can, if he takes the opportunity, show whether he can get a title(or try his best to) without dubious tactics or a teammate that panders to him. To really prove himself he should have a teammate that is, for once, real competition for him, like Kimi, Alonso, Hammy, guys like that, guys who were hired to go for the title too, and paid as much. The trouble is that's nnot happening. He has never allowed himself to be in that setting and never will. Hill seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt and letting him show he can be a sportsman. I'll do the same. The obstacle here is that he would be back to Ross Brawn as his tactician so we are back to that. But if he does this then the world will see him accomlish something new and gain respect from those he could not previously.

Please remove the tomatos from the cans before throwing them at me.

If Schumacher does go to Mercedes; Nico Rosberg (assuming he isn't off to Lotus before even turning a wheel in the Mercedes) will be shut out as Schumacher will almost certainly be lead driver, Rosberg to become another #2 driver to Schumacher. But that said I question Michael's ability to come back at 41 years of age and being out of the sport for two full years.

Sorry it is in Italian but this is where I read it.

Schumacher ha accettato l'offerta della Mercedes secondo la stampa tedesca (Schumacher has accepted an offer from Mercedes according to German press)

(Schumacher has accepted an offer from Mercedes according to the German press. All that is missing is the signed contract between Michael Schumacher and Mercedes for a clamorous return for the German in F1 in 2010. And what the German press supports is that for sure the 7 time world champion will be Nico Rosberg's team mate)

(According to the Bild, Schumi has reached a verbal agreement with the Stuttgart based company and has already ended his contract with Ferrari)

(For the magazine Focus, Schumacher will sign a contract with Mercedes as soon as he passes a medical).

"La firma e' solo una formalita'. Schumacher si sente allenato e in salute. Gli ultimi test medici sono stati completamente positivi" ha detto una fonte al Bild. "Non vede l'ora di tornare e lavorare di nuovo con Ross Brawn".
(The signiture is only a formality. Schumi feels in form and healthy. The last medical tests were completely positive said a spokesman/woman from the Bild. "He cannot wait to come back and worh with Ross Brawn again").

(An offical announcement could come next week, there are talks of payment of 3.5 million Euros, approximetly 1/10 of that earned in the last year at Ferrari)

(In the long term, it would be forseen for Schumacher a roll as ambassidor for the German company).

"Non ne so nulla" ha dichiarato Willi Weber, manager del tedesco. "Non ho parlato con la Mercedes e non ho alcun meeting in programma con loro".
("I don't know anything" Willi Weber has declared, who is the German's manager. "I haven't spoken with Mercedes and I haven't had any meetings with them")

So if the press were to be correct and this article no bull, then Schumacher will race for Mercedes in 2010

Btw the shiithead who wrote the article in Italian used the word "meeting" in the Italian language. I dont use Italian words when speaking English so why use English words when speaking Italian.

so you going to become a Mercades fan then Kiki?

Nein. But I can go for them as a second favorite team. Even without Schumacher if he doesn't end up racing for them. :D

It seems 90% certain now that Schumi will race in 2010. :yikes: Woahzah

If the rumours weren't true, Schumacher would simply deny them. But we haven't heard a sound from him, not a single word. Why? My guess is Schumacher learnt from the Summer replacement drive farce, not to get his, and the public's hopes up. It's better to stay quiet until everything is 100% official. Can you imagine being promised a Schuy return twice in one year, and both times it was taken away.

But none the less, silence is golden, and there is truth behind the rumours.

A lot of creditable sources are now claiming the contract is sitting there ready to be signed. Ferrari have said they are happy to let him drive (to my utter shock). Schuy is surely ready. I think the only remaining questions are, if he is now fit enough to race, and will any sponsors step in.

Also to note, Schuy didn't go to the Ferrari lunch, and Montezemlo mentioned all the Ferrari drivers (massa, alonso, kimi), but not Schumacher. Keke Rosberg does not like Schumacher one bit.

James Allen has apparently been doing a lot of digging into the story, and apparently it's all true and Schuy is going to be racing next year.

I like everything you had to say and regardless of the naysayers it would be fantastic to see a past WDC return after a "vacation" regardless of who they are  .
