I'm a University Lecturer, teaching a variety of law subjects.
Best Aspects1. I work with a great team of people, all very nice and our department has hardly outside interference from the University senate.
2. I love teaching people, and especially so when I get feedback either directly or indirectly that indicates people either enjoy what they're being taught or even if they don't enjoy it, that they
get it.
3. It's such a flexible position, you're not expected to come in at 9am and leave at 5pm, as long as you do your work you're left alone.
Worst Aspects1. Internal politics, usually stemming from those higher up in the food chain who don't actually teach, nor fully understand the effects on teaching some of the politics can have.
2. Students who think that they know better than me in a class, despite my having two degrees, two PGC's and in the write up phase of a PhD, as well as being an associate of the Higher Education Academy. Add to this my three years of teaching experience and four years practical experience and I'm sure you'll see why it can be irritating. I'm sure this happens in a lot of subject areas as well as schools, but unfortunately in a subject like law the class tends to be predominantly filled with students who have all achieved A's in their Highers and therefore think they're a genius, before they've hit the real world!
3. You can't just call in sick if you're ill. Unless you're really dying you have to drag yourself in, otherwise you're leaving anywhere from 12 - 150 students sitting with nobody to teach them. I've not taken a day off sick in my whole 3 years of lecturing, in spite of being nearly dead on my feet a couple of times...
In spite of the above though, I love my job, and the pay is more than respectable, which helps!!

Favourite racing series: F1, Indycar, NASCAR, GP2, F3, Formula E, Trophee Andros, DTM, WTCC, BTCC, World Endurance... etc. etc.
