maybe it is Kimi's driving style that makes the car unreliable?

Check his teammates car's and you'll get the answer.

2001 Sauber Kimi 4 Nick 2
2002 Mclaren Kimi 8 DC 4
2003 Mclaren Kimi 1 DC 4
2004 Mclaren Kimi 8 DC 2
2005 Mclaren Kimi 3 JPM 3
2006 Mclaren Kimi 2 JPM/DLR 3
2007 Ferrari Kimi 2 FM 1
2008 Ferrari Kimi 1 FM 2
2009 Ferrari Kimi 3 FM/LD/GF 2

So in his F1 Career Kimi has had 31 retirements his team mates 23
5 seasons he has had more retirements
1 season he has had the same amount or retirements
3 seasons he has had less retirements

retirements due to car failure

05 JPM had 2 retirements from crashes, and Kimi had alot of engine failures during practice giving him ten grid penalties. it was all down to Mercedes engines not Kimis driving. They would fail on Mika and cost him the title in 2000

I remember a time when engines would regularly expire; if we got through a whole race without at least one engine blowing up spectacularly; it was a big disappointment!

His teammates crash their cars too often; therefore not allowing the car to fail :hehe::wink:

Anyway if Kimi was in Mclaren i would be happy to see him win. So hopefully if he goes for a few seasons there the car will be reliable... he would have won some WDC's on the current iron-horse Mclarens. Time to start looking for Mclaren gear, but i do hope they change that gay robot silver stuff :)

Am I reading that right? Kimi would be driving for McLaren while Ferrari paid his salary, plus Alonso's? If that were to happen I would lose what little respect for Ferrari I have. In today's financial environment, if they throw 49 million out the window in order to upgrade from Kimi to Alonso I would be more than shocked.

Aren't the 49m for the entire contract, i.e., 3 years? So, they'd only pay the last year out?

nope thats his annual salary around £20 million a year

Does it not work like most professional sports, where another team can buy out a contract. Like football or baseball? Like a free agent?

I think this could happen but i'm not sure if McLaren would foot the whole bill though.

Kimi drove like such a monster in 2005, it seemed like every time he got a penalty he'd still get it onto the podium!

Ferrari could dump Raikkonen

Team president Luca di Montezemolo has said that Kimi Raikkonen is not assured of racing for Ferrari next season.

Rumours have swirled for months that Raikkonen will be replaced by Renault's Fernando Alonso for next year despite the Finn's contract with Ferrari running until the end of 2010.

Brazil's Felipe Massa is poised to return for Ferrari next season after suffering a fractured skull in July's Hungarian Grand Prix.

"We will have a Brazilian driver because he deserves another chance given that, thank God, he is fine. Otherwise, we are mulling the best choice but we still have time. We will decide in a few weeks," Montezemolo said.

Ferrari had always previously said 2007 world champion Raikkonen was contracted for 2010 but had not gone as far as to stay he would drive for the Italian team.

The laid back 29-year-old has been linked in the media with former team McLaren or championship leaders Brawn for next year. Raikkonen won the world championship by a point in his first season with Ferrari but last year finished third and this season stands a distant fifth with four races left including Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

Giancarlo Fisichella is filling in for the injured Massa for the rest of the year and will then be Ferrari's reserve driver next season.

Ferrari's new sponsorship deal with Spanish bank Santander has further fuelled speculation that double world champion Alonso would move to Maranello.

The Spaniard will first have to find a new manager after Flavio Briatore was banned for life from any F1 activity by FIA on Monday for his role in fixing last year's Singapore race.

The FIA ruled that Briatore, who was also Renault team boss, ordered Nelson Piquet to crash so that Alonso could win. Race winner Alonso had no knowledge of the plot, the FIA said.

Montezemolo, whose team were victims of a spy scandal involving McLaren in 2007, made a cryptic remark when asked about Italian Briatore.

"Ferrari has won eight titles out of 10 against the big car firms. What happened two years ago or a few months ago make me want to make a joke, but I won't," he said.
