- 27 Jul 09, 09:58#136998excellent drive from Lewis, he was the fastest car on the track all day, and the only reason he wasn't setting fastest laps every lap of his first two stints is because of his maturity in looking after his tyres. You could tell he had pace in his pocket though; whenever Kimi brought the gap down to below 16 seconds Hamilton just did a couple of scorching laps and pegged back the gap. The car is now one of the best, just below Red Bull, and Lewis will hopefully be fighting for wins for the rest of the season.
Now that the two teams who use KERS have developed their cars enough to run at the front I think you will see a trend of Ferrari and McLaren leading the race after the first few corners. Because at least a couple of their cars between them will most likely be qualifying at minimum on the third row, probably the second and sometimes the first, their boost will let them dominate off the start line. Yesterday Lewis actually got a relatively poor start; he was off the line slower than both Alonso and Webber, but you could see him drawing them in when they got to near top speed even though he had fallen slightly back at the start. And at tracks like Spa and Monza, the Red Bulls are never going to be able to get past a KERS car now that their downforce and aerodynamics package is actually equatable. As for Brawn, I can't see them getting on the podium again this season, but let's hope Jenson can prove me wrong.
Again, congratulations Lewis, a well deserved victory, and now let's see if he can add Spa, Monza and Suzuka to his CV.
