How dare bernie ecclestone claim in the times newspaper today that
Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things
. This man is at the helm of the most succesful motor racing francise in the world and cannot contine in his post with these small minded and absured comments. Also i find that his comments on saddam hussain and afganistan
We did a terrible thing when we supported the idea of getting rid of Saddam Hussein. He was the only one who could control that country. It was the same [with the Taleban].
These comments are a slap in the face to all of the brave men and women who have sacrificed there lives so that the people in Iraq and Afganistan have some hope for the future. I have served in recent operations in the middle east and to suggest we should have left these countries alone as they were is crazy. These people were tortured and now have freedom never known in their part of the world. This is the latest in a long line of Mr Ecclestone's opinions and as he is entitled to them I dont think that there is a place for them in this century, it is time to step aside Mr Ecclestone you are an embarrasment and your views and opinions are not welcome.

I haven't had the time to follow what's going on in F1. But every now and again it turns up on the news and I think "What on earth has happened now". And this is just yet another case when just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

It's just insane. Not matter what Bernie might or might not have done in the past, he has to go. Both him and Max have to go. It has to happen, and if any compromise is found that allows the Max & Bernie show to continue, F1 will continue digging itself into a deeper hole.

What is the current state of play with breakaway/no breakaway?

It is amazing that as soon as someone mentions Hitler, everyone jumps. Had Ecclestone instead said something along George Bush getting things done, no one would say anything. In the end if Hitler comparisons are bad because Hitler was bad, then George Bush wasn't much different now was he. Just a thought I guess. And yeah it is quarter past 4 in the morning, I can't sleep so that is why I am posting this ridiculous message mentioning the names of 3 idiots. Hitler, Bush and Ecclestone. Ummm maybe I'll mention a 4th name to add to that list. Max Mosley the man who probably idols the likes of both Hitler and Bush. We all know why too. :hehe: I will be glad to see evil and madman Max Mosley gone soon.

He couldnt use George Bush as an example because he never got anything done...

Damn! You just beat me to that one :D

Bernie is an utter Moron (capital M) for uttering these things. We have an old saying here in the US that goes, "Sport does not build character, it reveals it" I think Bernie just revealed a little too much of his true character. I don't how it could be done, but I certainly hope this leads to the (legitimate and lawful) disappearance of Berine from the F1 scene.

Man his comments are just insane. There were plenty of other past leaders he could have referred to but no; Bernie used Hitler!

Yeah, he could have referred to any English king in the past or Napoleon. Well, he said that deliberately, he had known that the reactions would be very strong so he used Hitler as example. He isn't stupid at all. He knows what's he doing. That's my opinion.

I wonder who Bernie could be talking too that'd give him such strange opinions??, I mean who does he know and talk too that might have a bit of a Nazi upbringing....? A major F1 personality that might think Hitlers a top chap........?, I don't know, I'll have to think about that for a while, Max out my brain cells, Whip up some thinking.

Ecclestone's Hitler remarks condemned

By Jontathan Noble Sunday, July 5th 2009, 08:11 GMT

Formula 1 has found itself back in the headlines for the wrong reasons thanks to controversial comments made by Bernie Ecclestone in interview suggesting praise for the fact that Adolf Hitler 'got things done'.

Just a week after grand prix racing thrust itself to the top of news programmes and the front pages of newspapers after teams briefly launched a breakaway championship, an Ecclestone interview in The Times has put the focus back on the sport once again.

In the lengthy interview, where Ecclestone talks about life and politics rather than racing, F1's commercial rights holder makes no bones about his belief that strong dictators are best.

When asked if he had a favourite historical dictator, like Stalin or Napoleon, Ecclestone said: "Maggie's [Margaret Thatcher's] gone.

"In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people able to get things done.

"In the end he got lost so he wasn't a very good dictator. Either he knew what was going on and insisted, or he just went along with it — either way he wasn't a dictator."

Ecclestone also questioned the more up-to-date western foreign policy of going after the Taleban and Saddam Hussein.

"Politicians are too worried about elections," he explained. "We did a terrible thing when we supported the idea of getting rid of Saddam Hussein, he was the only one who could control that country. It was the same [with the Taleban]. We move into countries and we have no idea of the culture. The Americans probably thought Bosnia was a town in Miami. There are people starving in Africa and we sit back and do nothing, but we get involved in things we should leave alone."

And he also vented his frustration at environmentalists who criticise F1.

"I was on the Fulham Road the other day and there were six buses lined up empty," he said. "I thought, 'Don't complain about us'. Thirty seconds of the Red Arrows at Silverstone use more fuel than we use in a week."

It is Ecclestone's comments on Hitler that have caused the most controversy, however, with them receiving widespread media coverage worldwide - and damnation from politicians and Jewish organisations.

Conservative John Whittingdale, chairman of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, told The Daily Mail: "These are extraordinary views and I'm appalled that anybody could hold them."

A senior F1 insider told AUTOSPORT that he feared for the damage being caused to the sport by Ecclestone's comments, and suggested the controversial remarks were evidence that the time had come for him to step down from his control of grand prix racing.

"The saddest thing about it is that no-one close to him has got the guts to put a hand on his shoulder and say: 'You aren't the man you used to be and it's time to call it a day.'" said the source. "And the man who should do it is Max."

I do agree with him on his environmental views though :hehe:

CVC Capital Partners Ltd. have to be loving all this unwanted press coverage. Bernie's shameful comments will hopefully lead to his forced retirement.
