SHELL, a major sponsor of Ferrari, what is their take on this news.

Never mind Shell, what about Santander and Alonso - what about Massa and Raikkonen?

They don't really get a say if the team wants to go. Obviously they will have to pay out for broken contracts.

Dont worry all will remain the same in the new series! Ferrari,McLaren,BMW, Renault, Redbull,Toyota etc and i am sure they will allow for 3 cars per team until more teams join up like Williams and Brawn etc so the new series will basically be F1 renamed being the pinnacle of motorsport while the FIA's F1 will be nothing more than a glorified F2 feeder series where average Joe has a team!

A breakaway series is all but assured if Ferrari leave. But what will Ferrari offer other teams? Merely coattails? Will they propose and stick to a level playing field? Do they have time to find venues, ink TV packages, etc.? I'd hate to see a series designed to all but assure Ferrari dominance for the sake of advertisers and television viewership.

If McLaren have the option of joining/setting up a new series with Ferrari and the some of the other teams they will go. They are racing team foremost not just an F1 team.

What on earth would possess McLaren to follow Ferrari's lead? Certainly not Mercedes, who have stated no major exception to F1 2010. Woking has just recently begun to reconcile its relationship with the Federation. A quit threat now would jeopardise any future mutual respect should they opt to stay put after all.

McLaren Mercedes is a Formula One Team and there is no reason for that to change.

I would be sad to see Ferrari go from a historical perspective. I think there is something special to the continuity of their place in time. I think, in the end, it would behoove McLaren to follow Ferrari though. As much as I am bored and galled by both teams and what their support engenders, McLaren and Ferrari going after it hammer and tongs really has defined a good part of international racing for decades, and both would suffer from the other's absence.

McLaren hate the FIA, they maybe doing okay with them at the moment but I think they would rather not have them at all, also they hate the 2010 regs nearly as much as Ferrari they have just been quieter because they are treading on egg shells at the moment. McLaren and Mercedes would of had no problem with going with Ferrari in the Manufactures breakaway idea of 2005 if Ferrari hadn't of bailed. I think they would be easily happy enough to go through with another manufactures breakaway especially if Red Bull went along that would be an instant 7 teams and once the series was setup I'm sure Williams and the rest would follow.

McLaren will just go to where the perceived top flight of motorsport is, and i imagine that that will be wherever Ferrari go. McLaren will also surely oppose the two tier as much as Ferrari as they are even bigger spenders than Ferrari and will be as disadvantaged as anyone by the rules

I think Jordan got it right earlier. Ideally, Ferrari would like to stay in Formula One, but the regulations have to be befitting of the sport. Ferrari and FIAT have got better things than Formula One to spend their cash on at the moment, so they're not going to waste their time racing a bastardised version of the sport.

It's great to see the teams taking a lead on this as well. With Ferrari firmly united with the FOTA after decades of an unholy alliance with the FIA and Ecclestone, all of the teams are in a much better negotiating position and a breakaway series is a real possibility. It would be suicidal for Mosley and Eccelestone not to come to the negotiating table with FOTA.

The manufacturers missed their chance for a breakaway when Ferrari blinked over the GPMA Vs FiA & FOA war. The time is not right to ditch the pinnacle of motorsport and set up a rival in its image, with the budgets knocking on $100 Million's door. Better to stay here and help fix the F1 we have than run off and create two sports, nether of which will be satisfactory for all current fans. They will cleave the support base in two. Revenue will drop. Both series would suffer. We are not in an up economy, this is not the time for making power plays over a desire to spend more than their rivals.

There is virtually zero chance the manufacturers will go through with it (So those of you of a particular persuasion who hate the FiA for very specific reasons - and you know who I mean - will have to get this idea of a grandiose middle finger being aimed squarely at the Federation need to think again). It is unwise, unviable and ultimately helps no one.

In fact, the worst thing they could is threaten to quit. Max Mosley is a stubborn, arrogant, power-hungry man. The worst thing you can do in war with him is threaten him - and worse still is threatening his power. All you will do is enrage him.

A better course of action would be to amicably continue negotiations, perhaps asking for additional dispensations, or simply seeking to remove some of the more ridiculous freedoms offered to Capped teams (Movable rear wings for example are a bananas idea). Look at Ferrari in the last dispute. They sat down and played nice. They got their way. Like their racing team, they have seemingly forgotten the winning strategy.

The manufacturers, with Big Red at the helm, are playing Russian Roulette with what they think is an empty gun. In fact, all the chambers are loaded and that bullet's going to rip through F1 like a hot knife through butter.

And how do you greet their reckless disregard for the safety of F1?

With thunderous applause.

What are Mosley and Ecclestone, the big bullies, going to do? It's all very well picking on the likes of McLaren in the school yard when they're on their own, but now McLaren's classmates have decided to make friends with them and gang up on the bullies.

It's always about Woking with you. This has nothing to do with Ron Dennis and Max Mosley's petty squabble.

And, once again:

McLaren have not said they will leave.
