I think it's a mild penalty. The comments the FIA have made about the culture changing at McLaren are possibly a dig at Ron Dennis. But I don't think anyone can reasonably claim that McLaren have been hard done by with this penalty.

Absolutely agree, it was a very fair (To McLaren) ruling. Now with politics aside back to racing

I still don't think this matter really should have gone to the WMSC, but given what the penalty could have been, this is the best possible outcome McLaren could have hoped for. It should placate the sponsors somewhat and means McLaren can see how the next couple of races go and maybe push for both titles if things permit. The FIA have got Dennis out of the picture and Whitmarsh has already made a few changes, so perhaps McLaren can get back to concentrating on motor racing, rather than being paranoid about the governing body and trying to score points off the team. The damage the last couple of seasons have done to McLaren, the FIA and Formula One in general is a deep shame.

The deal was probably done the day before Ron left.

Bah, I told you all. The WMSC and FIA may not be best friends with McLaren, but they're scared out of their minds when it comes to banning them from races. I'll tell you this much, you'll not see Ferrari, Williams, or McLaren banned from racing in this day and age for one simple reason, spectators. McLaren Ferrari and Williams are the 3 biggest names in F1, and they have the largest public draw. A race without one of those 3 teams is madness from a business perspective. Spectators come to watch one of those 3. Think about it this way, if 60% of F1 fans support either McLaren or Ferrari, and one of those teams don't turn up at a race for whatever reason, how many spectators do you lose. Not to mention sponsorship trouble. We all know Bernie and the FIA are money grubbing, and they won't risk such a loss in income.

However, if Toyota, Red Bull, or Brawn were accused of lying I think it would be a much different story.

Anyways, the only thing I'm questioning here, is what does this imply
McLaren will be banned, if there is another breach of the International Sporting Code.

What counts as a breach. Is this to say a drive through penalty would initiate the ban, or does it have to be something more serious. Either way, McLaren need to watch their back, Lewis sometimes has a habbit of getting carried away and getting into trouble. But hopefully they'll be fine. F1 isn't the same without McLaren, they need to be at races.

There is actually an article within the ICS that is specified somewhere. 151c or something, I can't remember it off the top of my head.

I agree

Yeah. 1 race ban would have been nice

No it wouldn't have.

Smart Desicion on the part of WMSC, The sport doesn't need any more BS right now and their Suspended ban will hopefully be forgotten soon if Mclaren can keep their nose clean. Does this mean they can rehire David Ryan?

There was nothing stopping them in the first place. However, would he want to go back? Would they want him back?

It could cause both parties some issues if it were to happen. Any stewards' meeting that he attended would face intense scrutiny.

Maybe he can join Ron on the road car front?

Possibly, but what makes up his skill-set? I always thought he was more sport-oriented than engineering-oriented in his role.

There are some possible roles coming up with the new teams that are rumoured to be entering, or at least attempting to enter, next season. They could use some experienced personnel alongside the new ones they bring in to help them get off to a decent start, Ryan could fit in here.

This was the best possible outcome for McLaren I'm genuinely surprised at how lenient it is. Though I don't think it should of gone to the WMSC anyway.

With budget caps coming and McLaren Automotive becoming a completely separate company at the end of the year I could see the possibility of some of the F1 staff going to the automotive company.

I think Firing Ryan is probably one of the reasons the WMSC went easy on them. A sign from Mclaren management that they won't tolerate that type of behavior.Although I still think Ryan was a scapegoat for some Mclaren higher management types.
I found it funny that Whitmarsh just walked in and admitted they were wrong, This whole thing was blown out of proportion because Mclaren didn't admit they lied the day after the first Steward's meeting. They could have sparred a lot of bad press, Ryan's job, Hamilton's "Press conference" , Possible loss of sponsors. etc.
