Drivers should get the drivers trophy and Constructors the constructors. Simple as that.

The whole thing of McLaren keeping all the original trophies in the first place was dumb, but then giving one driver special admission for apparently no good reason is strange too!

First thing that crossed my mind was the discussion we had about favouring one of the teams drivers :thumbdown::thumbdown:

Enough with the TROLL crap ok! If you do not like another member's opinion use a more tactical and mature way of expressing yourself. Your membership is barely more than a month older than jsonf1's is so your still 'wet behind the ears' also in a manner of speaking.

Ahh, Tex. :)

I completely agree with Scotty, but seeing as they've done it that way for so long, it seems a little unfair for Lewis to get a deal like that (although it's quite clear why he got it).

I think it's completely unfair to all of the past Mclaren drivers that Hamilton gets the real trophies and Mclaren gets the fakes. He is nowhere near as good as Ayrton Senna or Mika Hakkinen and did they get that privelage? NO

I knew you would be on to this like flies to dung. Hamilton may be allowed to keep some of his trophies, but that has nothing to do with Kovalainen's season being sabotaged. It has been shown on here numerous times that Kovalainen simply didn't do a good enough job.

Oh here we go  We're back on this one, he didnt go and never intended to. Call my bluff.

No. Lewis and Anthony Hamilton went in the huff because they couldn't get their own way. And who was the party who made the right call in the end? McLaren, of course.

Lewis isnt the first

Indeed, because Ron Dennis didn't resurrect McLaren's fortunes until 1981. Since then, though, the team has sought out the missing trophies, and has found a good few of them, and has had replicas made of some of the ones they were not able to locate or keep.

yup i'll name a mc/l driver that kept his troph from ron's case.alain prost!! he dropped into the crowd from the podium.i can't really rember the exact race but i get the feeling that it might have been the season ender.poss ad/aus.will look it up at some point.needless to say the ron was livid. burt.

He did that at the 1989 Italian Grand Prix after he announced he was moving to Ferrari, but that's not the same thing as actually being allowed to keep the trophies.

I know what happened. Nobody went in a huff. Anthony(Lewis manager) was negotiating to get lewis moved up the ladder more quickly, many believe that with these negotiations came a commitment that lewis would be in F1 by 2007. A brilliant move by Anthony if this was so, and this the guy you think should not be managing Lewis. Incidentally when these negotiations were going on Lewis was out of contract and a free agent.Lewis' wouldn't have walked and mcLaren wouldnt have let him both had too much invested in each other but Anthony negotiated hard as any manager should, and Ron negotiated equally hard as well.

Jesus I've forgotten what this topc is about now!! Oh yes trophies and the disgust of Lewis keeping some. Well if Lewis had the forsight to negotiate that deal good on him! I think the drivers should get the drivers trophy and the team the constructors. Just because its been done differently doesnt make that way the only way or the right way.Ron and Lewis seem happy with the deal so whats the problem.
I thought Mika kept one but I might be wrong there.

...and this the guy you think should not be managing Lewis.

Why can nobody understand me on this point? :banghead: For the final time, I've no problems with Anthony "Cut-throat" Hamilton managing Lewis, but I do think he needs to slip into the background and perhaps get some more P.R. experience.

Well if Lewis had the forsight to negotiate that deal good on him!

It was nothing to do with foresight. It was more likely that Ron Dennis said yes on first asking because of his special relationship with Lewis!

I think the drivers should get the drivers trophy and the team the constructors.

What you think is totally irrelevant. The fact is it that is - or was now, no doubt - McLaren policy that the trophies belong to the team. No exceptions were made for drivers like Lauda, Prost, Senna or Hakkinen, so why is Hamilton being allowed the trophies? It's a total joke. Dennis has gone soft.

Ron and Lewis seem happy with the deal so whats the problem.

See above. It's not the point.

Whats the hassle??

McLaren is built on a principle, and ideal that represents the company's integrity and what every single employee of McLaren stands by, their ideal and principle may not agreed with some outsiders but it is their foundation that the company is built on. To scrap that foundation based on one "golden" employee will put their integrity with their fellow employees into question. What you are saying is that all past McLaren Champions isn't worth a penny to LH because he gets special treatment. Plus the reason by RD's move is to keep LH from ever going to Ferrari.

I realise this. What you think is totally irrelevant too. The deal is between Ron and Lewis

I completely agree with you, bmwpower. The decision is unprofessional. Also, it also gives Anthony "Cut-Throat" Hamilton more leverage with the team. As soon as he or Hamilton have asked for extra cash etc., he's basically got it. What other things are he Hamiltons going to ask for and get?

Sadly so the Hamiltons are holding McLaren hostage. Bascially they see him as their "Schumacher" winning multiple championships and what ever LH wants he will get from McLaren, McLaren has sold their soul and will become Ferrari.
