Hamilton needs a bit more experience before he goes to Ferrari, McLaren are an excellent training ground for the Scuderia...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: More experience? He just beat them in his second year!

Hamilton doesnt need ferrari!

He scored the most driver points, they still won the constructors. Let me guess, you don't know about the constructors championship, because it doesn't involve Lewis...

I know about it  But the drivers is the more prestigious prize. Ferrari may have won the constructors but lewis obviously managed to win the drivers without a Ferrari underneath him. :D

I can't see Lewis in a Ferrari, same way I could never see Mika in a Ferrari, there are some drivers that you simply can't see jumping the fence. Alonso, he is the perfect Ferrari driver...

No I agree, cant see lewis in a Ferrari. Alnoso? Dont know, he's not a team, player, hed need it all his own way.
Now I tell you who would be the pefect Ferrari driver and it would be the only way to ever tempt me to support Ferrari and thats Rossi, shame he only uses 2 wheels. But he's testing!

He's fast, he's emotional, he's Latino, I can see the Tifosi warming to him. Ferrari have always enjoyed having a number 1 driver, if Kimi didn't lose the plot this season and allow Massa to get a look in he would still be Ferrari's undisputed number 1.

Next season, I'm not so sure, I think they'll let Massa and Kimi race and see who comes out on top.

The beginnings of things going wrong were in 1991, when Honda's engine wasn't as good as their usual standard. In 1992, - disgracefully - they didn't give a toss and a had the cheek to provide McLaren with a load of rubbish, which was a real shame, for the MP4/7 chassis was pretty good. Thereafter, the engineers weren't able to design the car properly, for they had inadequate information about the specifications of the engine, which, again, was really a pity, for some of the chassis were great. The MP4/8 was a brilliant piece of engineering from McLaren. If it had a decent engine, it would have won the title without doubt.

I definately agree with you about Honda's leaving causing lots of problems at McLaren, but man, the FW14b was something else entirely, so i don't quite get the basis of your final point...?!

What I mean is that the MP4/8 was a fantastic chassis. McLaren spent a lot of time on it and its active-ride suspension, for instance, was superior to what was being used on the FW14B. All of that wonderful engine on McLaren's part was ruined by Honda's antics and Ford's asthmatic engine. It was a good forty horsepower down on the Renault engine. :yikes: When you're giving away that much in engine power, you've not got a hope in hell of competing.

Edit: I should also say, those Honda engines did not come cheap. Honda should have been sued for breach of contract or something.

Ah wait, forgive me here, i thought the MP4/8 was from '92, but it seems it's from '93 from everything i have looked at, in which case, yeah, that was one hell of a car to make up for the weak Ford V8! :)

The 1992 car wasn't too bad. I don't think it could have beaten the Williams FW14, but the chassis wasn't as bad as its results suggest. After a couple of seasons without knowing what engine they were going to use, the team fell back. The 1995 season's effort, the MP4/10 was a pretty nasty car. It really struggled with front-end grip. It did, however, have a couple of interesting innovations, one which Red Bull like to claim is their idea:

Plagiarism. :nono:

Hah, yeah, that wasn't the best car ever. If you'd gotten Mansell in that car when he was just a couple of years younger... also I seem to remember someone like Jordan nicking that 'mid-wing' idea in 1996... i think. :scratchchin:

The 1994 car was decent, but i think McLaren suffered from a lack of Senna that season, and the Peugeot engines seemed hellishy unreliable! There's a picture of Brundle's car up in flames on the grid at Silverstone, which about sums that all up imo!

Yeah, the 1994 chassis was pretty decent. I quite liked the system it had to get round the banning of automatic gears. Basically, the driver went up the gears himself in the usual semi-automatic manner with the paddles on the back of the steering wheel, but going down the gearbox - the most tricky part for a driver - was done fully automatically. It was completely legal as well! Don't quote me on this, but I think it was also the first Formula One car not to have a clutch pedal, so everything was done from the steering. Before, the gearstick was basically just converted to paddles and the driver still had to use the clutch pedal when shifting.
