Jonathan Palmer was a good Co-Commentator on the BBC alongside Murry Walker. But Brundle is also just as good. So who will take the Anchor role? Surely not just brundle? Because doesnt he have some weekends off for racing commitments. usually Hungary... Is he banned from there or something :hehe:

It is quite amazing that the FIA even have time to sit there criticising Martin Brundle over the way he commentates on F1. Surely they should get their own house in order first - lets face it - the way F1 has been run this year is nothing short of disgraceful! They seem to have forgotten that F1 is about racing and not giving out penalties for every single little misdemeanour (and don’t even start me on the bias towards certain teams… which is the whole reason why Brundle is so unpopular within the FIA). Brundle only says what a lot of the F1 public think (certainly in the UK anyway). One of my favourite parts on race day is watching Brundle do his grid walk - he gets to talk to drivers which other commentators would not be able to do and he is insightful. It would be an absolute disaster if he is not working for the BBC coverage in 2009. Can you imagine if it was Mark Blundell doing his job instead… No, I don’t want to think about it either

Although this whole thing is nuts, in a way I wouldn't mind because he does crap on too much about Lewis Hamilton just because he is British and having to watch the broadcast in the English Language, on numerous occasions I have had to mute the TV simply because he was annoying me...........................

Brundle not James Allen. Wrong guy. Plus, no offence AKR or others who have to watch the ITV feed, but why don't you piss and moan at your home broadcasters in the countries you live in to at least provide commentary etc. To get pissed off because you have to watch and listen to the British broadcaster's feed is to be angry at the wrong people.

This is my first post for a while and so I may be behind in that latest goings on in F1.

f***ing FIA, what are they doing to this sport

The FIA sees itself as the moderator of the sport that can do no wrong. I seriously think that Max believes that he is a sane member of society

James Allen will not be commenting for the BBC next season, thank god. Whether somebody else is stupid enough to give him a job, I don't know.

Good to hear. I hadn't heard anything about the Beeb talking to him so I thought I might just be setting myself up for a fall. I'd gladly flush his head in a toilet.

James Allen is just as knowledgeable about F1 as Martin Brundle is. I liked him and I hope he gets a job working in the sport in some capacity. I might even start a petition to get him to co-commentate for Radio 5 live

FIA should have no hold over the BBC. They act in the interest of the British public and so if the public want Brundle then they better get him. Stopping freedom of the press is a tactic that all good communists employ to pull the wool over people eyes. I guess that apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

Good communists and good facists too. Not much difference when you think abou it!

Exactly my point. I understand the frustration, even being a homer Brit, the ITV jizz-fest over LH gets a bit much at times. However, I understand setting up a feed etc is very expensive but surely the fine broadcasters over the there in Oz can rustle up a couple of guys to do the comms instead.

I understand what youre saying, its my argument also, ofcourse the British are going to talk alot about their own just as the Spanish go on and on about Alonso!

as for the Australian commentators, well we have 2 guys that host the show and have comments after ad breaks but do not commentate.

True enough. ITV especially are sensationalist and trashy IMO. When it comes to sport anyway. Hate their sports broadcasts most of the time. Very much looking forward to it being back on the Beeb. Maybe even "the Chain" music will come back. Well, at least it seems that it will be Allen free next year. Something that will unite most Aussies and Brits.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts about the ITV commentary! I'm hoping that the BBC will have more equal coverage of the drivers. I understand that they can't talk about all of the drivers in the run up to the races, but it seems like they concentrate on Lewis so much more than they really need to... I'm not a huge supporter of Lewis so it'd be nice to hear something more than a passing comment about some of the other drivers once in a while.

I like Dr. Palmer. He was not the fastest driver in the world, but his intelligence, knowledge of engineering and articulateness made him a top-rate test driver. I have to say, I always found his voice funny, for he sounded like a robot. He doesn't make any mistakes or has any pauses for thought when speaking! :hehe:

ITV's coverage started off well. They had Jim Rosenthal, who was a good anchor, and Tony Jardine. Also, would you believe, they actually had a studio at the Grand Prix, so you could hear the analyses, instead of having to listen to wind blowing in the microphones and cars revving their engines. ITV's coverage has been a mess for some time now. It's time for change.

I liked Jim Rosenthal and Tony Jardine, and also in 1997 in the first year of ITV's coverage they had the guy who used to do Radio 5 Live commentary back in the 90's. Forgotten what his name was. Things were never the same once Jardine left and ITV were kicked out of the studio and into the paddock infront of Hamilton's garage. I'd love to see the BBC tempt him back, one of the greatest motorsport pundits in the world.
