There is another dimension that, maybe, a number of drivers or hopefuls are aware of. The grid is currently missing 2 teams, and there is a possibility of 1 or 2 more teams leaving F1 in the next couple of years. Although Bernie is saying nothing to us, he must be working on getting new teams in, mustn't he? he has a problem with FIA over this re customer car rules etc. but, they must find a way to get new teams in. No manufacturers are really showing interest and there is no obvious team for them to take over (Williams? - unlikely I think) and they like to take over a team to get quicker results. Most likely it will be teams from a different single seater format (GP2?) who will need good sponsors and support from an existing F1 team. FOM should be helping this process along.
Maybe drivers know this, maybe plans are advanced - the new teams will need drivers - maybe maybe maybe! New teams are needed that is not in question.
