Formula One related discussion.

Not unexpected news from Coulthard, but I'm glad to read that he is not hanging up his helmet just yet. He still has a lot to offer motor racing. I don't completely agree with some of his paranoid views on Grand Prix's safety standards, but he was a character, conducted himself professionally and is a team player. Formula One will seem a little bit different without him being around next season.

The anti-Michael Schumacher sentiments on here are inappropriate in my view. First, this thread is about Coulthard's retirement, and, second, as much as Schumacher was a contentious figure, his name is known everywhere, he's a decent man off the track and was always upfront about this sometimes over-zealous competative streak. Formula One does feel a little strange without him.

I'm not sure who I would like to see take Coulthard's seat next season. I am, however, pretty sure that Vettel will get it. I don't mind that, for he's clearly got potential and is starting to show some of it now. A driver I think did a good job was Davidson. I'd also like to see him back racing in some capacity.

Finally, I agree with Denthúl about Bruno Senna. Things are going well for the lad at the minute and he clearly has a lot of potential, but it's a big step up to Formula One. Another year in a lower Formula may not be a bad idea for him. If not that, he should at least join a smaller team at which the expectations are much lower, an option I'm glad he seems to be considering.

Good post MF, I think DC was given the opportunity to retire before being axed, his podium was too little too late in my opinion. He was struggling this year and completely outclassed by Webber.

The people constantly putting the boot in with Schumacher don't realise how boring F1 would have been without him. F1 does feel a little wierd without him, it's almost like we are all waiting for him to come back and spice up the show once more.

Bruno Senna needs to do more testing before he makes the leap, his carrying the responsibility of the Senna name into F1. Why come into F1 and run the risk of tarnishing such a good name? The lad better be sure he'll perform...

How, once again, has this thread become partly about Lewis Hamilton? What has David Coulthard retiring really got to do with him? Jeez.

do you reacon they might stick him in the torro rosso at the end of the season and give vettel a chance in the red bull? would be a good idea? :)

It's a moot point mate, they may as well just give a new driver a chance in the TR if Coulthard is wanting to retire from competition.
