they will not grow old as we grow old......

Indeed. One monument at Anzac is inscribed with words from Gemel Attaturk (he was a colonel in the Galipolli campaign and is the founder of modern Turkey). These are his words and they bring a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes every time I read them.

"Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosoms and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they become our sons as well.

That is touching RC it's just a pitty that fellow Muslims to the Turks living here don't feel the same way. On ANZAC day eve a group of middle eastern youths desicrated an RSL war memorial satue in Sydney. Do not understand how they can choose to immigrate to a country yet hate it at the same time! :censored:

Thats awful Bud. But don't let it colour your view of Turkish people in general. We have idiotic youths here that do things like that but its not representative of the British people in general. Around Anzac there are many cemetaries and memorials for all the nations involved and there is nothing but respect for all, by all. Ive been to Turkey many, many times, always been welcomed and treated well. It's a shame we all have to suffer the few ignorant fools, but I think this breed of person transcends poloitical, religious or geographical boundaries. They'r just ignorant fools.

The problem with ignorant fools is that they at times rise to power. Bolstered by more ignorant fools.
