1) What level of education do you have? (High school, some college, bachelor's degree, masters, ph.d., etc) and if you have a degree, what is your field of study? (i.e. math, law, engineering, english, etc.) Medical degree with additional specialist diploma.

2) What is your current occupation? And what education/certificates/experience/etc. is necessary to hold such a position? I am a doctor. Went to Medical College (we don't call it Medical 'School' in India) and later trained as an anaesthetist in the UK. But I am a GP now.

3) What do you like and dislike about your current occupation? Like the fact that I am helping to improve people's health. Dislike the fact that I am overworked and tired most of the time.

4) What are some of the day to day duties of your job? And what do you find difficult or easy about it? To put it simply, going to my clinic ("surgery" as we say in the UK) to see patients. The difficult bit is that I have no idea what problem comes next.

5) What is the entry level or average salary of someone in your position? (You don't have to state your salary - unless you absolutely want to - just what one could expect to make if they entered that field/occupation) Less than that of an average F1 driver.

6) How long have you held that position? I have been in my present position for 16 years.

7) Are you trying to attain more education, another job, a new venture (such as starting your own business) etc.? :yikes:

8 ) Anything else you'd like to add? (advice on how to break into the field, what you'd do differently if you could start all over - I'm pretty sure most of us would say "start karting at age 5 so I could be an F1 driver now" :hehe: ) If I could go back in time, I definitely would have chosen another field. Maybe physics, in which I was good at school.

Well, update time!

After a successful interview last week, I'm going to be leaving the law department where I currently work after more than 6 years with them, and moving over to social sciences. This isn't as much of a jump as one might imagine however, as I'm moving from being a lecturer in law to become a lecturer in criminology and criminal justice. :) Will be in my current post until January then commencing my new post.

Congratulations Zurich, on both the new post and the ridiculous amount of exams and academic hoops you have to jump through

Academically I'm utterly abysmal, I've realised this today. Give me an exam or essay etc and I'll fail horribly, but give me some actual work that needs doing and I'll have it done there and then, give me a problem on a real life system and I'll fix it, give me a hypothetical one in a test and I'll struggle like hell; not sure why. It might be because of my mind set "Exams are only doing something for me and I don't really matter, however work is for someone else/multiple people, the ones who pay me and the customers who pay them so I do care about that" perhaps isn't the best way of going about things

Funny you say that because I've worked with people that are the complete opposite. Siting on the employer side of the table, I've always been a fan of "working" interviews for that reason.
