isn't it refreshing to hate someone for who they are and not what they are? :hehe:

For instance on this forum, we all love and hate each other simply because of our posts! It's the purest judgement of all. Aww bring it in you mofos. :cloud9:

I can honestly say, I never have had racist/homophobic thoughts like that. Maybe I was just lucky in the environment I was brought up in?

Really? I find that quite amazing.

And what a surprise. Andrew is the one to question it. The first one to put a negative connotation into what has been a very open and honest discussion up to this point.... To use one of your favourites....

(And yes I know you'll come back with an innocent "I was only saying, I wasn't implying anything" statements)

I'm not questioning anything. I merely find it quite amazing and am genuinely surprised. The only negative conotation here is imagined by you as I think it is quite comendable that you've never had such a thought in you head. Of course you jumop straight to the negative as usual.

So tell me what I'm implying as I don't see me implying anything at all! As I said I am genuinely surprised at such a comendable thing. But hey, if you're going to be like that forget it.

I created a thread like this a year or so ago, and it fell into irreparable carnage. Sums up the topic really.

F1 still seems like an odiously macho environment, what with stick-thin grid girls and their poses, the associated heavy/rock music, big noises, and one still feels from the fans that sort of "we drool over anything woman" vibe. Look at the most viewed thread on this forum for example. And with hideously ill-informed right-wing relics like Stirling Moss still heaving and sighing around, we still appear stuck in the sludge of the uneducated past.

I do feel though, with each passing generation, acceptance of diversity, and, well, REAL LIFE, is getting slightly better. Slow, but better.

That image ain't never going to change Lew.

Incidently, is Stirling Moss right wing? What are his political leanings? I would suspect his comments are more a generaltional thing than an indication of his political beliefs.

Such homophobic comments he came out with will hardly arise from the left! It's an appalling far-right attitude which echoes extreme conservatism, such as one would expect from hideous organisations like UKIP, the English Defence League or the BNP.

Look at the Tory MP for Witham in Essex: "Gay marriage would be viewed with DISDAIN by the sort of Conservatives I respect". Such people would certainly appeal to Moss.

One person and you condemn the whole lot! Prejudice is not an exclusively right-wing thing like you think it is. Prejudice does not repesct class or political boundaries and comes from anywhere.

The most racist place I have ever worked in was run by a black man who was the biggest tool I have ever met. It bread racism because no one could call him a racist name. If the guy was fat or bald whatever it is acceptable to call him a fat twit or whatever... but mention colour is a taboo
#356881
It's a ridiculous taboo. I'm not saying to go around being racist to everyone you meet but the whole PC thing has gotten out of hand. It's worse than Health and Safety! Look at a lot of comedy shows fromteh 70's - there's no malice and some of them are pretty funny but 'cos they're non-PC they're not shown or are mysteriously "lost".

There's a Polish shop not too far from where I work where it is reputed that non-Polish would-be customers are not tolerated. Good innit?
#356898
Who said it's okay to ridicule or harass someone for being fat, or bald, or ugly or a 'midget' or a 'retard' where is the line? NONE of it is okay if the target feels victimized or worse doesn't even know they're being victimized. So the PC thing is there for the idiots that don't get it, and think it's okay. 40 years ago it was okay to call a black man boy, 60 years ago it was okay to call a black man a nigger. So don't get too comfortable with the mantle of the world being too PC, instead remember the reason why we needed to remind ignorant racists and bigots that it was not okay.

Beverly Turner says about a lot of this in her book "The Pitts"

To be fair when I read the book I took most of it to be sour grapes

Which is exactly what clouds the discussion.
Imagine if Rubens Barrichello was a gay black muslim woman...

Then Rubens Barrichello would be a really odd name.

Isn't it anyway?

That's the problem, a lot of the time insults are too harsh when applied to one side, but are not questioned when moving in the other direction, stirring up more issues. It's a vicious cycle.
