Schumacher's problems have been more with the Pirelli tires than with the car and the tires will remain the same no matter which team.

The way the car or a team adapts a car so that it suits the tyres will be different for every team, Rosberg had problems with the tyres too.

Although, I think your saying he will retire?

Deutsche Welle (German international news broadcaster) has been reporting over the past hour that Schumacher has decided to retire again. They've not provided any quotes or sources, and all I can find online is this: http://www.dw.de/dw/article/0,,16274133,00.html so whether it's true or not I have no idea. Either way, given that they're reporting this at the moment, I'd expect some more reaction today. I'm remaining sceptical until I hear it directly from Schumacher or his management.

Brawn has gone on record and said that the reason Schumacher didn't commit earlier to 2013 with Merc was that he wasn't sure if he wanted to commit without a guarantee that the car would actually be competitive and so wanted to wait and see the 2013 car in a more developed state. I don't blame Schumacher one bit for that given Merc's last 3 efforts. This to me shows that he actually was intending on driving net year IF he was likely to get a competitive car.

Anyway, hopefully more news as the day goes on.

His comeback has been less than impressive in the hands of Mercedes. This is a crying shame for a driver as garlanded as this. Younger / newer fans, who weren't watching F1 prior to 2007 will not know what the fuss was about!

Apart from a few mistakes, his driving this year has been pretty good, but poor luck just means he didn't get a chance to show it.

Zurich reiterated my point, that Schumacher might actually not be retiring but choosing to get out of Mercedes as a team, which is in direct contrast to Lewis, and I'd go with Schumacher's judgement over Lewis's on this matter.

Guys, you have all seen the interview after the crash in Singapore. He looked so tired of everything, so disappointed. This is probably the end. I feel sorry for him, he could have done good things, but mostly bad luck stood in his way after returning.

It's funny how much this reminds me of Michael Jordan's retirements and comebacks.

I'd like to see him at Ferrari next year for his swan song, but I doubt it'll happen.

Perhaps I am just being biased, but I think if Schumacher does go for a non-driving F1 role, it will be with Ferrari not Mercedes. Hulkenburg is managed by the same manager as Schumacher, has shown caution with regards to taking a measured curve for his career (so could be receptive to a mentor) and with Massa, Schumacher has shown an interest in being a mentor. This would go some way to solving Ferrari's reluctance with an inexperienced driver tying in with what F1ea mentioned about how Alonso is very self-focused and not interested in helping out across the garage, so they need a driver who can handle that way of working (so Hulkenburg will have Schumacher helping him out).

I said a similar thing Vaptin but got flamed to buggery. I reckon management of some sort if definately on the cards. I wouldn't rule out Merc pulling the plug after another dire season in 2013 and Brawn GP MkII rescuing the team for 2014.

There have also been rumours of him ending up at Sauber.

An update to the article that I linked to earlier (above in the thread), they've now edited the article, and changed the headline and much of the content of the article (for anyone reading it now and wondering what I was talking about!). Earlier they were reporting that he was definitely retiring, and now the only mention they're making in the article is that he's 'likely' going to retire, as pretty much everywhere else has been saying since the Hamilton / Perez moves were confirmed. So looks like perhaps their source (whomever it was) was not reliable!!

Id like to see him stay in F1 for another season , in a car with better reliability , be even better now Hammy has left Mac to see Schuuy jump in his seat in a decent car , just 1 last time , the rainmeister on track
