But surely there's more people in America that don't want idiots running around with guns than people who think its ok? Why not just change the law?

Because the situation is so screwed up that a LOT of people think they need a gun to defend their home against criminals and loonies and don't want that 'constitutional right' taken away from them.

people no longer have the ability to change laws because the politicians they elect are beholden to the political contributions made by lobbyist and political action committees. So if a politician come out against guns, they'll be outspent 30 to 1 in their next election and will have a very difficult time winning.

No offence intended to any Americans on here, but the entire American system needs changing. The politics are more corrupt than Soviet Russia was, so much so they had to rename bribery to lobbying. The gun laws are incredibly too relaxed and the inconsistency of laws between states boggles the mind, both about gun laws and anything else.

The culture of America is strange to the rest of the world too, a mainly religious christian country that thinks everyone needs guns to defend themselves, free healthcare would plunge their country into a north korean style dictatorship, terrible high school education on other cultures and countries (i have a texan friend who told me not once in 5 years of geography have they not studied America) and companies own far far far too much of the government it's un-real.

On a lighter note you did invent coca-cola and for that I am grateful.

I think the issue is that America has gone too far down the line of being allowed guns. How many unregistered and uncontrolled guns are there floating around? Even if the law was changed right now, what would you do? get everyone to register their guns, I am sure that most people would not bother. Then what would happen? start to procecute people with unregistered guns? I am sure that almost anyone in the UK could get hold of a gun if they started asking around.

Think how strict our gun law has been for a very long time. I know this as I looked into getting a gun license recently. Even as a member of the armed forces (so yes I can carry a fire arm in uniform) the amount of hoops to jump through where amazing.

Are you still offered a gun licence and a cheaper firearm when you leave the mil now? I know my dad was offered a gun licence and cheaper gun when he left the navy, but that was 20 years ago.

I'm pretty sure that between DD and myself we can identify more countries on a world map than all you you. :D

You just have to overlook the fact that I was born in Cuba and he was born in Switzerland but we're both Americans.

You have no idea how complex Geography in my school was. :wavey:

It's only complex if you have a hard time understanding it.
We can even expand the contest to world flags, not just county identification on a map!I know which way to hang the flag of Poland and with way to hang the flag of Monaco.

I was at the royal edinburgh military tatoo yesterday and I could tell you some hilarious stories about what the americans kept saying, mainly because they spoke drivle constantly.

The norwegians came out and they said ' why do they have the finnish flag?'

After the show ' that couldn't be more english' the guy from 3 scots didn't look too happy after that.

' look it's elizabeth' ' isn't she the queen?' 'i think she was, wasn't she voted out?' That was after a giant protection of the queen was showed.
