Every team on the grid already have a #1 and a #2 driver, whether they will admit to it or not. Within the bounds of Einsteinian physics, it is not possible for a two-car team with but a single pit box to service both cars equally. They must favor one to the exclusion of the other.

Which driver is accorded #1 status can change but at any given moment in time, only one driver can be the chosen son.

Yes , that is true but there can still be equality from a point of view of consistency, for example... the leading driver always gets the option to pit first... no exceptions!

Just looking at the Gossip & Rumours section of the BBC F1 website, and according to The Times...

Jenson Button will end his Formula 1 career as a McLaren driver after signing one of the longest and most lucrative contracts in the sport. Button, 31, is understood to have committed himself for at least another four years in a deal worth up to £50m.

Some news outlets are saying that the deal could actually be worth up to 131m over the next 5 years. (Still 7m less then Hamilton)

Yes, varying sources give varying details. Hopefully we'll get to know the full and proper details soon.

I think he's worth every penny with the results he's been bringing in. If the team would shape up these pit lane bloopers and lewis and him would fight a bit smarter all the time, we might be seeing a mclaren driver being closer to the top rather than being the top contender for 2nd. : \

Oh well, there is always next year :)
