Why would he deliberately cruise around when he could have the satisfaction of adding more wins into the record books that he is bound to re-write? If he can get all the remaining pole positions, he'll re-write a few of the qualifying records.

6 more wins and 6 more poles and he'll break the following records:

Most pole positions ever in a season.
Most consecutive pole positions
Most wins ever in a season.
Most consecutive wins...

He would also be featuring in the leaders of all time in pole positions and wins in a career, he already has a higher percentage of poles than Schumacher.... Do you see where I'm going with this?

WHAT AN EXCITING END TO THE SEASON!:thumbup::cloud9::cloud9::clap::clap:

Hello? Anyone there? :wavey:

Anyone?

No? :crying:

It's a lonely life being a Vettel lamb... *sigh*

That's the price you pay, you should really read the terms & conditions before signing up for any fan club ;)

I don't think Vettel will win all the remaining races but I wouldn't bet against him getting six more poles, he seems to have a knack of pulling it out of the bag when needed!

I think it's a very interesting, and also valid point you make though.
For fans of Vettel in particular, just seeing him succeed is interesting, but for others/neutral viewers Formula One can be made interesting in any situation by simply looking at it in a different way. Seeing Vettel this year, is like seeing Schumacher in 2002 and 2004; while the excitement may not be as much of who is going to win (although certainly this year, there's been plenty of on-track action in my opinion), but you just know you're looking at a drive that will go into the history books. Regardless of how good the Red Bull is, seeing Vettel drive it so (near-)flawlessly is just incredible to see. Seeing Schumacher take on the record books back in '02 and '04, and Vettel this year, is exciting and interesting in its own way.

In a way, it's kind of like playing a modern game with the achievements and what-not; even if the main game is done, you can still find your own set of things to do, enjoy or get excited about.

And that's what I think is motivating Vettel for the rest of the season - because we know he loves his statistics. I love my statistics, and that is what I'm mostly thrilled about when supporting Vettel. I.e., his qualifying statistics, can he topple Ayrton Senna with in consistency and total pole positions ever (I know Schumi has the latter record - but he's been racing longer). What about the great Fangio? Or is that unrealistic?

I saw Fangio's percentage of front row starts - he had 92% or something crazy like that. I think that is definitely unachievable :hehe:. Unless heaven forbid, some kid gets a pole position on debut and has an early retirement before the next race...

Just to confirm if vettel wins this race, and button gets 5 or lower and alonzo gets 4th or lower, he's champion?

Sebastian Vettel can clinch the world championship in this race in the following scenarios:
Vettel 1st: Alonso 4th or lower, Button and Webber 3rd or lower
Vettel 2nd: Alonso 7th or lower, Button and Webber 6th or lower, Hamilton doesn't win
Vettel 3rd: Alonso 10th or lower, Button and Webber 7th or lower, Hamilton doesn't finish 1st or 2nd
