Honestly, I think you're seeing what you want to see. Every fan base has a variety of fans, we're not all alike. To say that all McLaren fans are disrespectful and wish harm upon other drivers is a massive sweeping statement. I find it as offensive when people make similar comments about Ferrari fans, Schumacher fans, Alonso fans etc. (Just to name some of the other common groups to be targeted). It's a form of prejudice and it's idiotic, to put it bluntly. Why can' we just accept that everone is different and team or driver preference has nothing to do with it. This argument seems to crop up again and again, somethimes it's "Why are McLaren fans this?", sometimes it's "Why are Ferrari fans like that?" and all of those threads are ridiculous.

To answer your other question, how would I feel about a racist comment? Well naturally, I'd find it extremely inappropriate and offensive but toilet humour is hardly the same as racism.

I'm talking about wishing that drivers have crashes, or that they'd like to snap someone's finger off. If you'd ever experienced direct threats of violence, you'd probably find such comments pretty high up on the offensive scale.

And while there is variations among fans of all teams, it does seem that when I see bad sportsmanship on this forum, it's almost always McLaren fans.

Okay firstly, I was the one who made the finger comment and I did not wish that someone would literally rip his finger off. I was joking! Maybe it's the fact that you don't know me very well that is the issue here because I think most people on the chatroom know that when I, or anyone else, says something like that we're not actually wishing harm on that person. It's meant to be light hearted chat. I think that can be shown by how many people have taken issue with things said in the forum today, namely one (yourself).

Bad sportsmanship comes from all teams, we tend to see more from McLaren and Ferrari fans purely because they have such large fan bases, especially on this forum. It's not indicative of all fans of a certain team.

EDIT: And can I just add that I apologise if I was a little harsh in my earlier posts. I think one of the problems here is that some people come onto this forum to have very serious sporting discussions and debates, whereas some of us come here to have a natter and a laugh while we watch the F1 with people we've come to know quite well.

Okay, first of all, once again, you really need to not take things so seriously. Second, all jokes are offensive in the right circumstances. What matters is context. Let's think.

Here are a group of friends enjoying a shared pass-time. They all comment on a person annoying them with his pointing. One remarks they'd like to rip the guy's finger off. Proceed to banter.

Now...Is that in any way the same as this:

Here is a person being confronted by an angry person who they are on hostile terms with. The angry person tells the other he is going to rip his finger off. proceed to menacing movement towards hand.

The answer, is no.

Context, FF. Context.

It looks like this was a simple misunderstanding; it's easily done on the Internet; a missing or misplaced emoticon can give the wrong impression, let's move on and enjoy the race tomorrow!

Are you seriously comparing a little banter and a little trash talking between fans w/ racism?

F1 is a sport
Almost all sports have some sort of trash talking. Try going to a tennis forum and observe how federer and nadal fans argue w/ each other. Go to a basketball forum and observe lakers and celtics fans. In baseball, we have the yankees and the red sox. In the EPL we have manchester united and manchester city.

I'm not liking this tread very much, had I not been getting my beauty sleep while you guys were discussing Qualifying I probably would have killed it after the first post. I do commend all of you for keeping this from getting out of hand.

Apparently though, the only thing a Tifosi hates more than being 1.6 seconds off the pace of a Red Bull is seeing McLaren fans complaining about being 7 tenths of a second off the pace of a Red Bull.

I've just come from the chatroom where a number of McLaren fans are saying that they're "sick" of seeing Vettel win week after week. In quite a few chats, we get McLaren fans saying that they are hoping that McLaren's competitors will break down or crash out.

When we see things like this, it's almost McLaren fans doing it. Why can't McLaren fans just accept that when their team is being beaten, that there's nothing wrong with that. It's just what happens in sport.

Someone needs to take a chill pill.

Can you honestly say that you've never thought the same about Ferrari's rivals? Your team is down at the moment, better in race pace than quali, maybe, but please take a deep breath and see the banter for what it is - banter.

For once can Ferrari and Mclaren fans not unite against the common enemy? The drinks company must be stopped!

I'm almost certain Ferrari are going so fast they have broken the speed of light cause everytime i see them they appear to be going backwards :P

McLaren fans are quite similar to Ferrari fans, very passionate about their team thats all and neither should be called 'bad sports' imho. Also as myownalias mentioned most likely it was just a simple misunderstanding as that sort of thing happens all the time on the internet as true meanings or intentions are often taken the wrong way.

As several longtime and might I add respected members have mentioned this thread was unnecessary and I agree with them.

Intentional or not, this thread is very provocative and was only ever going to be a huge mud slinging contest from the off. I don't see any reason why we should have threads like this present on the forum, absolutely none at all. If anyone feels they have a decent reason why we should then pm me, but in all honesty it probably won't get this thread reopened.

I was hesitant to do this cause we've had a fair few lockings recently but here there is no alternative option and i hope you can all see that.
