I think you need to go to the pub and have a drink, youre taking this too seriously! Seriously mate... But never once did i insult you, or call you an idiot like you claim so dont even try and say otherwise!

What a pathetic argument...if I say I am the greatest athlete that ever lived, I don't expect anyone to start a freakin argument with me since its my damn opinion.

Anyway, my pick would be Tiger Woods. Reason being he's one of the most popular if not THE most popular sportsman around the globe. He's a class act on the golf course, and man I hope to achieve what he's achieved...off the course.

*grabs hat and runs off*

I dont know whether its entirely fair to choose someone from a sport that is particulary dominated by one country: basketball-USA.

You know what i mean :D

Youe got to look at it in the worlds eye view, or else i could say torvill and dean for GB getting gold and top 6.0 scored from all judges for their ice skting routine in 84 or whatever!

Might search my good friend google and see what others are saying on this intriguing question....

Impossible question as if 10 of us were to vote on any one sport, i bet we wouldn't come up with many clear winners, let alone across every sport of all time.
Football : Maradona,Pele,Cruyff,Best etc etc
Swimming : Phelps ,Thorpe etc etc
F1 : Fangio,Senna,Clark etc etc
Boxing : Robinson,Ali,Marciano,Tyson etc etc
NFL : Montana,Rice,Peyton etc etc

You have people that have broken racial barriers in sport, you could argue thats one of the biggest things :Woods,Hamilton,Owens etc etc

Do you class darts as a major sport,Phil Taylor 15 times world champion ,never likely to be matched again.

It's still an interesting question though,do you discount someone who had a contraversial career on the grounds it's not sportsman like : Tyson,Ali,Maradona,

As I know nothing at all about basketball I couldn't comment on Michael Jordan.

For my two cents I'm going to go for Maradona,it's one of the most played sports in the world,by the most nations (roughly 220).He basicly won a world cup on his own.Won league and UEFA cups at an unfashionable club like Napoli. The guy was a genius on the pitch shame he wasn't off it as well. :hehe:

The question is how do you quantify greatness???

Which in all reality makes the question irrelevant simply because we all have a different opinion and outlook.
