Not sure if Turn 9 is in S3; but, Formula 1® is reporting:

14:45 - Replays show that Hamilton went off on Turn 9 on his first soft tire run.

14:48 - Hamilton off again at Turn 9.

Oh, and Rosberg is P1 with 129.375 (and both Button and Alonso are ahead of Hamilton) with less than 8 minutes to go.

The ERS problem for Ferrari is seriously looking like inhibiting their weekend :(

The team are pursuing every option to find a solution

Vettel seems to be magnanimous about it though - no hint of tanties. If he puts his head down and ploughs through the issues without fuss he's more likely to gain admirers. That onboard lap with him later in the session was just nasty - it felt like it would be way off the pace but was just how the car's handling in general. As the guy from Williams said there too, those who had the best diffusers are losing more relaltive downforce, no need to name names, so it's no surprise.

Lol everyone looked ragged like hell out there, especially Kevin and Vettel. Rosberg was absolutely nailed though, that Merc looks bloody good in more ways than 1. Pretty confident Lewis will pick it up during qual somehow, he's got sector 3 on the back of his hand. Heavy braking and huge directional changes, it's his forte.

... I'm worried about Ferrari though, if Merc are having to lift that much to save fuel imagine how Ferrari have to with their thirsty engine.

Nico said Merc were under fueled. So it could be that their engine is actually so efficient/powerfull that they were looking at doing the whole race with LESS than 100 units on board....

Personally I have no idea how the respective engines will be on fuel consumption - other than to be sure their won't be any big differences. Whether Ferrari is the most or least thirsty is a mystery to me at this point in time.

However I did take note when Nico "warned that getting to the chequered flag on the 100 litres of fuel permitted this year could be a serious challenge" in an interview posted on the F1.com site.

I think that interview was before FP2. It could be that since then Merc have confirmed how much more power they have and maybe have realised that they could still be competitive on less power hence less total fuel and were testing that in FP2

We could still have some teams sandbagging, or hiding clever tricks on their car, or holding off for the first few races till they change their protective engine cover for a heavier one

I know, just trying to get the show a bit amp'd up. :D

Apparently the wind is picking up even more and there are dark clouds in the area.
