Good race.
Mclaren the fastest, but let Jenson down, although that doesn't seem to bother many people.
Ferrari the second fastest, should have gone with a 2 stopper. Correct call to swap drivers, Alonso is leading the WDC Massa is nowhere, it's just people don't like Ferrari and Alonso, perhaps imagine all other conditions were the same but this was Mclaren and it was Hamilton Jenson, or Redbull with Webber and Vettel. Decent from Massa still, he made a very good start, but showed he struggles with tyre wear. Alonso was great, made up loads of places very cleanly in the first lap, didn't trust Schumacher and had inferior DRS and straight line speed, and kept it brave with Vettel - it takes a lot to have Alonso crash out in a race.

Red bull struggling for pace and reliability, but maybe it was just the nature of the circuit rather than the car. Webber, though, is definaltly struggling.

Mercedes as usual go backwards, whereas Sauber and Lotus go forward. But it seems the regular points scoring is other or Williams, and they're drivers haven't made good use of the relatively good times, back to fighting Force India and Torro Rosso.

HRT look set to finish last, not much else to say about the back markers.

Loads of action.

Great drives by all 3 on the podium and good racing from everyone. Fantastic by Perez.

Fantastic demeanor from the guy as well. He's got Ferrari number two driver written all over him. I hope if he does move his career shines brighter than just another of the long list of support men for the Scuderia, he's having a banner year and frankly I'm looking forward to the support he'll be receiving in his "home" race in Austin come November.

ESPNF1:
His comments came against a background of renewed concerns about costs, with FIA president Jean Todt also warning that F1 is too expensive for smaller teams. Montezemolo said one possible solution would be to have smaller teams run customer cars from the likes of Ferrari.

"This is one of the reasons why I said two years ago maybe it is better if Ferrari or McLaren or Red Bull supplied one car to a small team. A small team today has to project develop the car from grass, and it's not easy for us so can you imagine for a small team. Because if you are a small team I give you a Ferrari, I put a young driver in the car and you have less cost than if you are obliged to develop your own car."

I wonder what he's been smoking? :hippy:

I'm sure the second part of that thought process is... and when their car is ahead of you, like Sauber was today, we can just call them up and tell the small team to pull over and let us pass. The way is should be.

Ok race, glad Perez got something nice out of it after last week's BS. Hoping Sauber can maintain the challenge for fifth, they deserve it way more than Mercedes! Speaking of fifth places, nice damage limitation of sorts for Raikkonen. He needs to win races soon to build any realistic title case though, consistency isn't enough when the points benefit for winning is so great.

Lame show by the 'fans' during the podium ceremony again, no one deserves that having just driven excellently.

WDC is getting tight, McLaren are definitely at the outright front again in terms of pretty much every aspect of being quick and the car seems to be quick at all types of circuit. From here it's gonna be all about race wins rather than picking up points i think. Alonso must win at least one more race to stand a chance of holding off Hamilton, who should win a couple more races in my view. I think the title fight will boil down to those two, Red Bull's car just isn't as quite fast as McLarens over a range of track layouts.

Likewise the constructors championship battle suddenly got interesting again, although i expect Red Bull will hit back at Singapore where the car should be more suited, as stated above Mclaren just have the best all around car so must surely be able to steadily close the gap over the course of the remaining rounds.

What on earth did they bung him for anyway?

Cause he blatantly ran Alonso out of road, pretty clear cut. On Sky they showed the incident back to back with last year's, and the difference between the two could be clearly seen.

Conclusion: Red Bull risked too much, Renault has shitty alternators. Vettel MUST attack in the remaining races.

That was a terrible penalty. What on earth did they bung him for anyway? What was the explanation?

Last year alonso left him a cars room, seb left alonso much less space they showed it afterwards, when i first saw it i thought no penalty but after watching the analysis and listning to the ex drivers i think it was the right decision

Damn Scotty... I don't think I've ever seen a post written by you that I've agreed more on than this. I'm very excited about the WCC prospects and Button's DNF today was a blow to McLaren which seem to find a way to not have one driver score, one way or another. Agree on the race wins. It would be a shame not to have Renault put everything right and get a win this year, because the car is there, just seemingly always something not going their way.

2012 is turning out to be an epic season and I hope it continues the nail biter effect till the end.

Scotty, I didn't watch the ceremony after the race, I knew what "bar stewards" Italian crowds are... :banghead:
They really ruin everything they accomplish by showing up in such numbers.

The message is clear, it looks like from last week going forward no monkey business will be tolerated. I sort of want to see Maldonado put a foot wrong just to see what kind of wrath they let loose on him. :hehe:
