Kimi Raikkonen completed 99 laps at the wheel of an SF15-T, working his way through all the sets made available by the Italian supplier. “It was like a normal day of testing,” commented the Finn at the end of the session. “I think it’s too early to say much about these prototype tyres, but it was a very useful session, because everyone was running under the same conditions. It’s been a while since we’ve driven and, even if it was just one day, there’s always something you can learn from it.” Tomorrow, the Scuderia will be back on track, with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel for the second and final day of the test.

Final day of Pirelli wet tyre testing

Le Castellet, 26 January –Testing continues at the Paul Ricard circuit, chosen by Pirelli for a session given over to wet tyre development for the coming season.
After Kimi Raikkonen provided the data yesterday, this morning it was Sebastian Vettel’s turn to slip into the cockpit of the SF15-T at the French circuit, using the short 3.530 km version, which was artificially watered. A change in the Red Bull camp too, where Daniil Kvyat took over from Daniel Ricciardo, while at McLaren, Stoffel Vandoorne is driving for a second day. There are more runs planned today- ten in total – and Vettel has already completed over 80 laps.

The Pirelli test ends with a “marathon”

Le Castellet, 26 January – With nine planned runs completed today, the Pirelli test drew to a close. It was an opportunity to fire up the engines after a two month break, courtesy of a special test to look at 2016 wet weather tyres. The distances planned for today’s running were much bigger than yesterday, with longer runs to evaluate the behaviour of the prototype tyres in variable track conditions.
In the closing stages, Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time, with a 1.06.750, running intermediate tyres. “It’s always useful to drive a car,” commented the German at the end of the day. “It was fun, even if, with a lot of different prototype tyres, you may get different results, without knowing which tyres we are testing, or if they are going to be used in the future or not. You can have a rough idea which tyres you test and how the tyres were last year, but it’s not clear what’s going to happen with the tyres after this, even if for sure there are some results, but it’s too early to say. It was dryer than yesterday, as they put less water on the track, but they provided us with very consistent conditions.” Sebastian completed a total of 134 laps today, equivalent to around 473 km.

...Ferrari’s medium problem

Marrying up Ferrari’s form in 2015 with the tyre choices that were available delivers some clues about how its results were impacted by which compounds were on offer.

In 2015, the soft tyre was selected for 15 races. The medium tyre was picked for 13 races, while the super soft got six outings and the hard just four.

In the four races that did not feature the soft tyre, Sebastian Vettel managed to win in Malaysia, but struggled against Mercedes in Spain, Britain and Japan...

...For Ferrari, less downforce meant the car was better able to deal with the soft tyres to keep them alive longer.

However, that characteristic meant it especially struggled to get temperature in to the medium compounds, particularly in the early laps of each stint...

...Avoiding the medium

For the first four races of 2016, Pirelli has announced that teams can pick from the super soft, soft, medium.

And, as the rules states, Pirelli has made it compulsory that drivers have available for each of the races one set of medium and one set of soft tyres.

However, the rules do not force them to use both – which means Ferrari can steer clear of the medium and instead concentrate on its preferred soft tyre if it so wishes...

Claimed by “La Gazzetta dello Sport” and by”Autosprint“, following years of pull-rod suspension, Ferrari would have finally decided to return to a push-rod suspension.

Nicholas Tombazis and Pat Fry introduced pull-rod suspension in F2012, but fans not impressed with pull-rod. But James Allison would have decided that to adapt push-rod suspension, to go back to traditional and more realistic, the push-rod suspension.



Autosprint claims, is the nose, with the rounded shape of 2015 giving way to a more Toro Rosso-style setup for the new season.

The Italian expecting new nose solution will allow a greater flow of air in the area of the base and the ability to generate more downforce at the front.

Autosprint reports that Ferrari’s engineers could also adopt S-Duct on the car, during the 2016 season, a solution already seen last 2015 season.

Tighter Rear



One of the main problems of 2015 Ferrari F1 were the sidepods (and the rear): too large compared the other top teams.

Ferrari 667 will set, tighter engine cover and tighter sidepods, new gearbox, pull-road rear suspension. May be a different inclination for the radiators

A new engine block



MGU-K removed from the back to the lower-left side of the engine block.

The intercooler should be removed from the “V”, and it will be positioned, presumably, in the chassis.

New crankcase for Ferrari 667 more tighter than last year. These changes should allow engineers to work with more freedom to improve downforce at the rear. The Ferrari 667 will show major changes in gearbox and the engine cover.

The Scuderia Ferrari team knows how to tease fans. Recently, it offered a peek of its brand new power unit via a teaser video posted on its official Twitter page. Recently, Formula1.com technical illustrator Giorgio Piola offered some analysis regarding changes Ferrari is looking to do on their car to make it more competitive. Among these will be the adoption of variable inlet trumpets that would give better tuning of air/fuel mixture during combustion as well as a shorter nose, narrower gearbox, narrower “coke bottle” rear end and first-time use of pushrod front suspension.

The mood surrounding this team is one of cautious optimism. According to a report from Autosport.com, the Maranello-based outfit has been anxious throughout the Christmas season. “We’re working very hard, we’re very tense, we’re terrified because we’re afraid of the future, so we’re not relaxed, “ Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene explained.

Meanwhile, it seems Ferrari may soon be working with another Schumacher if current rumors are true. Mick Schumacher, also fondly called Schumacher Jr., is said to be making a play to join Ferrari-linked team Prema. According to a report from Wheels 24, it seems Schumacher Jr. managed to impress Prema team boss Angelo Rosin.

“Mick did a very good job in his tests for us. We are very interested in working with him in the forthcoming season,” he said. However, recent reports also suggested that the 16-year-old may opt to stay in Formula 4 and delay his entry into the European F3 series for another year instead.
