Sorry Vaptin, but UNBELIEVABLE.
“Lap 17: Alonso asks: What is the situation?
Stella answers: you have to pass the Renault, he doesn’t have to stop. Then it’s Rosberg ahead”
In a circuit like Abu Dhabi, where there’s almost impossible overtaking, they put Alonso behind Petrov and Rosberg and they knew the situation when they did it, because this conversation took place just after Alonso’s stopped. When they ordered Alonso to stop he was placed in a comfortable fourth place. Just what he needed to win the WDC.
UNBELIEVABLE

So you're saying that it is impossible for Ferrari to have simply made a mistake, but that is is possible that dozen factors all tied together in an elaborate plan to steal the WDC from Alonso by the Germans.

Please Burning, don’t try to simplify things ignoring the main facts. Not only Ferrari’s strategy was unbelievable. MS's accident was still much more unbelievable. The rest comes alone. I can’t say exactly what is anybody gaining because I don’t have a crystal ball, but I repeat, we’re talking about the WDC and his huge value in all terms.

How was it unbelivble?

he over egged the power to a very powerfull rear wheel drive car when it was unsettled and he spun.

You're still ignoring important information.

Which one?

That at the point that Webber pitted, his tyres had grained severely. Alonso's tyres were getting to the same point. Neither team knew whether they could hold on too much longer; Webber pitted, so Ferrari pitted Massa in an attempt to cover. Webber then set two laps that were faster than Alonso's at that point.

Webber

11: 1:47.978 (P)
12: 2:05.730
13: 1:46.675
14: 1:45.541
15: 1:45.086

Alonso

11: 1:45.842
12: 1:46.105
13: 1:45.955
14: 1:46.341
15: 1:48.009

So Ferrari feared that Webber would have the pace to jump Alonso. Since they didn't know that the option tyres would stabilise over the coming laps and Massa had failed to get out of the pits ahead of Webber, they had to choose to cover Vettel or Webber. At that stage in the race, Webber still had the potential to be the biggest threat. Assuming all of the front-runners would have to pit over the next couple of laps (which turned out not to be the case), Ferrari would have to pit at that point to ensure that they got out ahead of Webber in order to hold position. Even though they would come out behind the cars of Kubica, Rosberg and Petrov who had already pitted, so too might Vettel, Hamilton and Button. This would then put Alonso in a comfortable position to win the championship.

It was reported, upon pitting, that Webber's tyres were looking pretty bad, so it's not as if there was no reason to pit at that stage. Bridgestone's expectations for the option tyres were something like 18 or 19 laps if I remember rightly. Nobody expected them to be able to go to laps 23, 24 and 39 for Hamilton, Vettel and Button respectively.

Had it not been for Alguersuari causing problems and Fernando having a shocking in-lap (ooh, was he a part of this ridiculous plot, too?!), Webber would have jumped Alonso in the pits, so Ferrari made the right move with the knowledge that they had available to them at the time.

Once again, I'll state that hindsight is a wonderful thing. We all have the benefit of it here and it's easy to come to conclusions like that, but during the race it's different. How long have you been following the sport? ;)

Jack with regards to my post above the massive ammout of co-operation invovled and the risk from a "being caught by the FIA" point of view on top of the fact that Schui could of been killed is just too much a stretch of the imagination to believe your theory is true.

In my opinion its the fact that they were worried about covering webber, saw his tries go and worried about Alonso's tire wear and just either misjudged the safty car pit stoppers or forgot about them

Gaz, do you Consider MS a conformist man? Do you suppose him satisfied been just one more on the grid? Do you think he has a greater expectative for himself into the future? Has he stopped before the idea of crashing on purpose anytime along his career? Did he feel that he was risking he’s and others life in many episodes of his career? Like when he almost sent Barrichello into the wall just for not being overtaken.
A man like him wants victory over any other thing and if he can’t get it, it’s so insane to suppose him feeling an enormous satisfaction giving or taking the title to others. Playing the key role in deciding who wins the WDC?
About Webber. He was in the middle of the traffic with a lot of drivers in front of him. His options were obviously and definitely ruined.

No i don't consider him a confirmist man, so if he was ask to crash on purpose risking his life, his reputation and his records i think he'd say no.

Hes possibly crashed on purpose in the past for his own personal gain there would be NOTHING to gain from him helping vettle.

Racing drivers of now are not like racing drivers of the days of Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn.

They are out for themselfs and to a lesser degree for a team Schumacher had nothing to gain from Vettle winning the WDC.

I don’t think he was asked, I tend to think that he was who moved the whole thing.
I’ve explained before some of the things he could gain by doing that. Just use your imagination. What’s the value of the WDC? What can you get for giving it? Almost anything. It depends on what you want.
