It is now, he did run out of fuel.

so his lap before must be his quali pace.

In which case, I'm slightly more concerned. :(

There's more to a qualifying run than just fuel loads, there will be tyre pressures, set-up changes etc happening overnight. I bet Alonso was also running on fumes, desperate to give the crowd something to cheer about.

I'm still remaining sceptical though, we all know now that Williams like running on no fuel, I wish they would stop doing it though, it makes them kind of look stupid when qualifying comes around.

sorry I didn't phrase my reply very well I should of said something like 'it gives a good indication their qualifying pace' he will probable gain an extra few tenths from fresh rubber, but it's useful to compare against Brawn who I think would run a bit heavier. I think Brawn will be on for 1-2 tomorrow.

I dunno, I don't think you can discount the Red Bulls and to some extent the Toyotas.

Hamilton to not get pole or win.

On a serious note, I expect Toyota to be up there. Jenson for Pole with Vettel either second or third.

you know alonso's gonna be on fumes for the fans

And?

Well if he does get pole, it would be quite a hollow achievement. So i'd rather he settled for 8th or 9th and had a proper fuel load than attempt to steal the headlines.

Who’s the F1 heavyweight?
May 8, 2009 by James Allen

Picking up on the story yesterday about Fernando Alonso losing 5.5 kilos in bodyweight during the Bahrain GP, I mentioned that Nico Rosberg was telling us yesterday that he feels the rapid weight loss the drivers have undergone over the winter is contributing to them not having the reserves of energy and strength at the end of races.

I spoke to one of the leading driver trainers and he agrees with Rosberg’s point. Apparently, though, the important thing is how you lose the weight. If it’s too sudden then you lose the reserves and your energy patterns go all over the place. If it’s controlled and planned then it’s no problem.

Out of interest here are the weights of some of the leading drivers in F1, as compiled by one of my Italian colleagues,

Webber 75kg – he gained 2kg over the winter while nursing his broken leg
Kubica 70kg – he has lost 8 kilos since the 2007 season
Raikkonen – 69kg
Alonso – 66kg
Rosberg 66 kg – he has lost around 5 kilos over the winter, I’m told
Trulli – 64kg
Vettel 62kg
Heidfeld/ Massa 59kg

One of my readers posted a question the other day, could I imagine Juan Pablo Montoya coming back to F1?

Looking at the above table and what is required from drivers today in terms of weight control, I think we all know the answer to that..
