According to something I read, McLaren said there was some debris picked up in lap one that logged in his car. Given the set up he was never going to go anywhere but it explains the thud and then everything was better comment from Lewis a day or two ago.

Lewis was on pole last year, and Vettel won so whomever can set up right for this weekend will take it but I'm thinking a Red Bull McLaren slugfest for the podium in Korea.

I forgot about the thud. But that still doesn't explain the lack of pace in qualifying really. :scratchchin:

No, the car was just wrong in qualifying but the time gap there just isn't as critical since even Vettel's fast lap during the race was a 1:35.7 as compared to his qualifying time of 1:30.8

This have gotten a little droney here of late, here's a reminder of our Forum Guidelines so feel free to read them again. We as moderators do not play favorites when it comes time to whack someone with a big stick, so the next time a little tanrum like the one above takes place, those involved will be spending a GP weekend or two alone.

Oooh, didn't know yours can grow to a big one...

Lewis was very clear that he took a wrong direction in setup (reverting back to Fridays setup) for qualifying. However, he said he expects the car to be around the same during the race and will have to 'drive around it' the whole race....then it seems after a 'thud' after lap 20 the car was much better. Even so, his pace was not that impressive...he did make a fastest lap at one point but still not really on par with what the car could've done. I reckon what WB said makes some sense...the car was crap to start with, and some debris made it even more crap until lap 20 where it went back to regular crap again. It's all relative, and Lewis probably felt the car was much easier to drive after the debris came off. If that makes sense.

I think Lewis' biggest mistake of his career so far has been, sacking his Dad.

I've thought that for some time. his dad always had his best interests at heart and i think would have been more aware of the politics going on at Mclaren. But that said Lewis had to step up and be his own person at sometime, changing management was the start and now he's changing team. I can see why he's done it.

All Lewis needs now is to get a better looking girlfriend, and then the world would be rosey.

So...this might contribute to the 'Has McLaren lost/Hamilton lost/both lost' thread:

Dr Helmut Marko has revealed he is pleased Lewis Hamilton is moving to Mercedes.

Red Bull’s driver manager, who is also the team owner Dietrich Mateschitz’s right-hand man on racing matters, told Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport he needs to thank Niki Lauda. Triple world champion Lauda has officially joined Mercedes, after helping the German marque with its Concorde Agreement negotiations and convincing Hamilton to jump ship from top team McLaren.

“Niki has done us a favour,” said outspoken Austrian Marko. “He has weakened Lewis and McLaren. Next year, we have two opponents less,” he added.

It's one of the options on my poll. :hehe: I'm sure Luca is saying the same thing over at the scuderia.

Not so much that I think he also controlled Lewis better, can you imagine twittergate happening with Ant around?

So Lewis's problem was in the rear suspension and was nothing to do with a failure to set up the car which i have to say i am quite relieved to hear cos my belief is that he has been on fire recently in both car set-up and performances on the track(you could discount Spa but practice was hampered by the rain so him and Button gambled on different set-ups and unfortunately for Lewis he chose the wrong one) so the sudden loss in performance from him in Japan was quite baffling to me to be honest. I fully expect Lewis to be on the pace and to take it to the Red Bulls this weekend.
