Lewis on his reasons for going to Merc, I have to say this interview really does make me believe Lewis is leaving Mclaren for the right reasons. IMO it is rare for Lewis to be so open and in this interview he's looking honest and content, a rare thing in his world of media hype!

I love Lewis to death. He re-kindled my interest in F1, and re-invested my emotions in a driver's highs and lows in a way that few others ever have. But right now, he is just talking too much. None of what is happening now is unexpected. Once he made that decision, and I support him 100% -- by far it was the only thing any self-respecting man (or woman  ), could possibly have done -- once he made that decision, the rest of the year was virtually guaranteed to become more of a soap opera than it already had been. So just rollwith it. He doesn't have to explain it, he doesn't have to justify it, we know the reasons. And he doesn't have to denigrate Mercedes, they may be great next year even if he hadn't come on board. We don't know, he doesn't know, so just shut up about it.

I know this situation is tough emotionally on him, and those close to him, and I think he just wants to soften the blow by kind of babbling out loud, to no good end really, and I think that is just making things worse.

There is a time to bark, and there is a time to lay low. It's time now to be ultra professional, even if McLaren always isn't. it's time to be ultra gracious, both to those working with him now, and to those in the media who probably want to prompt some sort of Monaco outburst.

It's time to just do your job, and wait, 'cause that's really all he can do right now. And then when the time comes, you take all that pent up energy and frustration, and you hope the racing gods give you the equipment you need to do the job, and starting next year, you bust McLaren's a**. And you do it every race weekend, every qualy, every FP, from now 'till the end of your career. And you never let them forget the mistake they made, and you never let history forget the mistake they made. And when it's all over, and McLaren invites you back to one of their events as one of their past champions, you handle it with such grace and good nature, that you never let them forget the kind of man you eventually became. One for history. One for the record books (in a way no one else ever can be again).

One for all of us to say, I remember when . . . .

This was such an un-Lewis weekend...oh man, he looked painfully slow throughout the race but made the best of it.

The only part he showed his true self was muscling out Mr 'I dont care bout no-one' out of the pits, that was awesome. My only cheer during the race.

He drove a Fernando Alonso race today, lost points only to Vettel of the WDC contenders... I do agree though, fantastic pass on the ICE MAN on cold tires out of the pits against a guy determined not to loose a position and points. :cloud9:

5th was better than I was expecting after that tremendous decision on set-up.

Even with that f*ckup, he ended up only 12 seconds behind the McLaren no.1 of 2013...its not as bad as wherever Button usually ends up behind Hamilton when both finish races.

Btw, just read this write up on the race and chanced upon a bit of the pre race interview:

The jibes started in Thursday afternoon's press conference when the FIA rather cheekily sat Sergio Perez next to the man he will replace at McLaren next year. Asked about leaving McLaren Lewis Hamilton, with what looked like a rather forced smile, said: "I know I'm leaving a very, very good car for this guy [Perez] to step into." In his typical Mexican monotone, Perez simply answered: "Thank you." Continuing with the passive-aggressive exchange, Hamilton - still grinning on the outside but with his voice wavering - hit back: "Yeah. Trust me, it will be a good car next year as well, I know. I know exactly what's going on next year with your car." The next public encounter between the two came on the track when Perez launched an audacious passing move up the inside of Hamilton for position on lap six. He somehow made the move stick, making his rival look rather dopey and no doubt evoking some mixed emotions on the McLaren pit wall. Hamilton regained the position at the next pit stop, but soon came under serious threat of being shown up by Perez for a second time. With his ego bruised, Hamilton's eyes became rather more sharply focused on his mirrors and this time he was ready for the banzai passing attempt. He called on his extra four years of experience and casually placed his car half a metre or so further to the left on corner entry. It wasn't much but it placed an element of doubt in Perez's mind, which, slightly overloaded all of sudden, couldn't keep up with the course of events. The rear of the Sauber broke away and the Mexican was powerless to arrest a rather amateurish slide into the gravel. Hamilton had won the battle, but it will likely prove to be just the opening salvo of a fascinating war between the two next season.

Nice text with a bit too much fanboyism.

"It wasn't particularly exciting but I think I got everything I could from the car," he said. "It's just a little bit strange, the car's behaviour this weekend, I had this understeer through qualifying and today was the same. I thought with the wind direction it would change but it started off the same as qualifying, so I was falling back from the grid and wasn't quick enough. Then all of a sudden I had this thud on the rear on lap 20 or something and all of a sudden the car started turning and after that I was able to push. I don't know why that was but we'll try to find out why."

I find this very interesting behavior from a technical point of view. A "thud" and suddenly you're able to start pushing again. :scratchchin:
