PETRONAS MOTORSPORTS
Fact of the day:
At the end of 2014 F1 winter testing, PETRONAS fuel and oil covered a total of 13,841 km with MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, Williams F1 Team and Sahara Force India. That’s the same as flying from the PETRONAS Twin Towers to HPP HQ in Brixworth – and back to the Russian GP in Sochi! While they were at it, those three teams took eight of the 12 fastest times of the day…
Bring on Melbourne!

The potential downfall of Merc this year could be it's management structure; now it has the no TP structure they wanted, but it's untried, untested and now they are missing Brawn to make key strategic decisions throughout the year to help with the development war, and on track. Thinking about it, I wouldn't have implemented an entirly new untested in F1 management structure next year, due to all the problems that are going to arise this year mechanically, not need to add managerial issues to that.

Edit: No TP means the team are glad they aren't going to India this year.

Luckily Merc can afford to pay the top guys the big bucks for making the decisions etc that the average person cant

So you're saying you know more about what makes a management work compared to Mercedes aka Daimler HQ...ok, what do you do in your day job again? I hope you're a CEO of a company like Nike or Samsung or something to know more about what could've helped Merc succeed this year.

Do you like putting words in my mouth? At what point did I say that I know from experience, or my job that I know what Merc need to succeed this year? No... No I did not... I said that a POTENTIAL downfall of Merc is switching to a brand new management structure with new people at the top who haven't really been there before; unlike last year where they had Brawn. It doesn't take an idiot to understand that big high-teir management changes very very rarely occur smoothly without any problems at, especially in fast pased companies like F1 teams.

Though the idiot might understand that the only change that's taken place is Brawn leaving. Toto and Paddy have been there for a bit and you can bet a company like this will make sure handovers are done the right way. Brawn was actually supposed to leave a year earlier, but there's a lot of guys in the background who have been set in their roles by Brawn quite some time back.

2013 was basically Paddy and Toto absorbing it all and making sure the structure's in place. Car developments, management hierarchy will hardly change. What might be the difference is Brawn's lack of presence where race weekend strategy is concerned and yes, this might show cracks this year (season). At least I won't be surprised if it did.

Yeah that's what I meant, I didn't expect Merc to just tell them "Shut up and get on with it", they got two trusted, experienced people but it's fast decision making on the Pit wall and relating that to the factory for mid-season development where they are most likely to fall fowl of; if the car is as solid and fast as it is in Pre-Season.

I agree. I'm hoping this will work just fine, all good vibes so far, but I can't help thinking that which ever way the cookie crumbles, Brawn on board would be one warm and cosy safety net.
