Heavier fuel makes it harder to achieve top revs and slows the process down in my view so I think qualifying trim is what stresses the engines, that's why they run lower engine maps during races to save the engine so it can last longer as teams are not going to ultimate pace during the race. Anyway I'm dumb so disregard this post.

I see your point, but I'm sure these cars are able to reach their highest revs on the straights even with a full fuel load. If they're testing reliability they'd make sure the ratios are set aggressively, you don't need a light car to stress out the engine. And won't the engine be working as hard as ever out of corners, maybe the coefficient of friction decreases since a heavier car will result in higher wheel spin, depending on the throttle input.

I remember a science test at school once and it said the force on the engine is increasing, how will it affect it's speed(boat). So I put it decreases and it was wrong! I don't get Science.

What's this 'force'? I don't get it either, unless they specified what this force is.

Btw,

Mercedes still exceeding expectations - Rosberg

Mercedes has started to focus on performance and set-up work in Bahrain after exceeding its own expectations in terms of reliability, according to Nico Rosberg.

The car stopped twice on track with two different problems during the second day of testing in Bahrain, but while some of its rivals are simply trying to put mileage on their cars, Rosberg said Mercedes is still happy with the reliability of its car.

"The first part of testing was for reliability and that was very important, I think we did a decent job on that," he said. "We were getting a lot of laps done and trying to understand where our weaknesses are on the car and where we have to work on.

"Then performance is obviously the most important and we don't really know where we are yet with performance. We've started work on the set-up, and today, from that point of view, was a good day for me because I felt at home, felt comfortable and was able to attack. That was a nice feeling."

Rosberg said the Mercedes' reliability was allowing the team to be flexible with its run plans while other teams continue to slave away on fixing problems.

"We're better than we expected to be in terms of reliability, just compared to our own expectations. We thought it would be even more difficult, so from that point of view we're pleased because everybody has done a good job to make this car relatively reliable to start off with. [It's] reliable in a way that at least we can do a lot of laps and start to see problems and also work on performance."

Title doesn't really represent his words per say, but it seems like the car's well balanced already and Mercedes are set to fine tune this car from tomorrow onwards. I wonder if they'd fly in upgrade packages by the 3rd or 4th day or if at all?

A happy customer is a good customer, something a lot of Parisien shop attendants haven't worked out yet

"We're very, very pleased with the power unit. It's a real quality product; it's running reliably, it's running powerfully; it's a good power unit to drive with," he told Sky Sports News on Thursday as Williams driver Valtteri Bottas completed 116 laps to go fifth fastest overall.

"Very little to say other than heaps of praise."

Mercedes' V6 turbo hybrid has had the measure of the power units delivered by Ferrari and, in particular, Renault so far this winter. Williams switched from the French manufacturer at the end of last season.

This is what Niki said yesterday after seeing Maggiessons laptime set on SS

Mercedes has reportedly been running with the medium tyre only, because the Brackley squad did not ask Pirelli to supply the softest in its range, which are never used in competition in Bahrain.

Team chairman Niki Lauda, however, is now curious.

“A test is there for testing, to see the whole picture. You have to know what you can do on each tyre and I would like to know if we could do the Magnussen time on the super-soft tyre,” the Austrian legend said.

Lewis bettered the time by 0.7 on SOFTS, Merc have been going about this whole business completely professionally, no glory hunting or showboating and are only now moving onto the performance possibilities

Even someone not even that versed in aerodynamics *puts my hand up* can see the Merc is way tighter on its packaging and the car just looks so well integrated. Anything the McLaren does, the Mercedes should be able to better. Unless the McLaren has hidden 'ducts' or an invisible diffuser or something I'd never be worried about McLarens times....but I think they have huge scope for improvements, maybe played it safe and built a tank to ensure reliability is there to start off with.
