Can you get it live?

So far I've just seen laps round Silverstone but I think they're gearing up for it according to their tweets.

You can watch it here if you haven't got the app. It's AMAZING. I just realised you can change the angle of watching by moving your iPad or by dragging your finger on the screen. Very good!

Lewis just tweeted.........@LewisHamilton: At the moment we are aiming for reliability and not necessarily topping the timesheets. The team can be really proud of what we've achieved!

I just can't WAIT till he drives it in anger!!!!!

Ok, this might sound stupid - BUT if they are not pushing 100% - can we sure the power train is reliable enough? An engine might be reliable if doing laps at 95% - but blow up doing 100%??

I think they have the luxury of a powerful engine they don't need to run at full power. But I don't think that's what Lewis meant. I think he meant they were testing reliability rather than wringing it's neck for a time.

There's a stress capacity on the components. These guys will be stripping the parts after each day and checking the wear, it's easy to determine if the engine is about to fail or not. Plus I think what Lewis meant was that no one's pushing at the wheel to the max, and in terms of setup they're running a standard 'go to' setup and not a track specific one.

Either way, the engineers have done a hell of a job with the PUs already cracking a faster time than 2013's FL!

I'm just getting on a flight and I can't find the reference which I wanted to post, but I recall recently reading Lauda saying they were running the power train flat out at Jerez.

Does anyone else think the side pods are a little larger at the rear?

I can remember someone from Merc saying they'd been running the power trains flat out in simulation........I mean real engines, but not in the car......., exactly replicating a GP weekend. But that might have been a separate reference.

Nope maybe you're looking a little too hard.

Larger rear wing, housing around the exhaust exit. The top air intake seems to have been revised though, larger than before...probably since it's Bahrain. Don't know if others have done the same.

As for sidepods....no clear differences. If anything, looks more sculpted to me, or maybe its just the angle.

Agreed, it is very hard to tell, it was just an inkling I got after viewing a few images. Either way, if there is a change, it is a very small one.

That shot of the monkey seat is great. It really shows how important that is this year, what with being bigger and the only bodywork you can really blow with the exhaust. It will be very important this year IMO and if looks count for anything, that one looks really good :)

OK, found the article and quote. It was from an interview on Jerez. Full article from Grand Prix 247 is >>here<<.

Mercedes’ Niki Lauda, however, said there was no sandbagging in the silver camp.
“We went to the limit that we could, as it makes no sense to go deliberately slowly. You learn nothing [from that],” said the multiple F1 World Champion and Mercedes Team Chairman.

The limit for a team doing a full race sim will be different for the limit when doing a few laps at a time

Stressing the engine to the max will also mean loading up the car with fuel. So how does this prove anything except they really do have a rock solid engine.
