I think it's foolish to act bullish about Redbulls woes after a couple days of pre season testing.

Too true!!

Lots of drilling in RB pit. Seems turbo and battery control unit packaging is too tight, not a Renault prob

Do I smell chassis modifications and a slightly fatter looking rear coming up in Bahrain?

This winter test is a pivotal one, coming after an engine and reg change. History tells us that big changes for a new era start from testing, Brawn in 2009 for example. Williams' deterioration can be tracked back to losing a good engine deal. Mclaren know all about going from hero to zero after changing engine supplier.

We always knew there could be a casualty with an engine maker getting it wrong.

I don't see how RBR are meant to transcend the deficiency in the engine stakes overnight, therefore it's plausible to assume they will be playing catch up to the other teams.

So they are just like any other team, victims of the regs, why should we not expect the worst when we expected the best when they were lucky with the last reg era? No one cried about Williams why should they about the drinks company?

Its down to Renault now, not RBR

Redbull have called it a day. Not even a lap done.

Merc shows some pace:

January 30 2014 10:32 PM
Hamilton immediately pumps in the fastest time of the test so far with 1:23.952. That's one second quicker than Jenson Button's hitherto day best and 0.2s faster than the McLaren man's benchmark Day Two time. He's followed that up with a slower 1:32.

Helmut Marko making his way out. Hope it isn't a Renault powered one?

Say, I wonder if Webber is feeling sorry for his old team right about now. :scratchchin:

It seems a bit unfair for the Ferrari engine guys to have only 2 cars, while HPP have 4. If you assume that HPE are running a coordinated engine programme across the 4 cars, thats a huge amount of extra testing data for one team to see. Merc basically have 4 cars at the test trying their engine settings, like having a secret test session even

If Merc have worked and created an advantage good luck to them and they should be allowed to benefit from the fruits of those labours and investments.

It's not a crisis, just "silly issues" and "human error" at work...no reason for panic.

Hamilton's Mercedes whistles down the pitlane. Lewis says he has been preparing for 2014 in a slightly unusual way:

"It has probably been the shortest winter I have ever had out of the car. I spent Christmas and New Year training in the mountains and I even put a turbo on my snowmobile, so that I could get used to the feel of a vehicle delivering power in that way, which was pretty awesome."

And, they can all be resolved "overnight", eh!!

I'm not sure why Ferrari haven't put a real front wing on yet.

15:25 Chilton has also taken the Marussia out. And Hulkenberg joins them now too.
