Besides the exhaust, the two big ones I see are:

• Before the safety car returns to the pits all lapped cars will be allowed to unlap themselves and then join the back of the pack, ensuring a clean re-start without slower cars impeding those racing for the leading positions.

• Drivers may no longer move back onto the racing line having moved off it to defend a position.

So much for wheel to wheel racing :irked:

Combined with DRS, the pursuing car is starting to hold all the cards.

I like this one. Nothing worse than seeing several lapped cars inbetween 1st and 2nd position at a restart...

It's always been there in driver briefings

That's the one that made me giddy... it's going to be MUCH harder to run away with it.

I think this is a good rule. Looks like its to help certain blind drivers SEE the car beside them and give room instead of stupidly cutting across and crashing, later claiming "it was my line it was my line" even though there was a car already taking up that space....

The safety car rule was actually this way a few years ago...and for some reason they reverted back. I think it was to do with backmarkers taking the advantage to 'race back' to the back of the pack and ignoring that the track is still not safe as yet. Who knows, the dullards might have forgotten...and go back again to the 2011 rule blabbering about safety.

The incident that comes to my mind is Hamilton v Massa @ Suzuka. Even with the new rule, the crash would still happen - both drivers attempted to follow the racing line from 130R to chicane entry, with Massa pulling to the left first to make use of his extra exit speed. Neither driver moved twice, it was a lack of situational awareness.

I doubt it's being introduced to stomp out lame excuses. More likely, wouldn't the motivation be on safety grounds & a desire to increase overtaking? For me, battles like Schumacher v Hamilton @ Monza are of more interest than push-to-pass, uncontested overtakes.

Glad they've re-introduced the SC unlapping ruling!

Back to driver line-ups, it looks like Lotus/Renault may well be going for Grojean if reports are to be believed. Bad move I reckon. Petrov is far better and Grosjean hardly impressed when he took over from Piquet Jr - if anything he was worse!

Grosjean likely to be Raikkonen’s teammate

Grosjean looked considerably quicker than Petrov at the Race of Champions. There is an element of 'anyone can beat anyone' about the event, but he still looked head and shoulders above.

Shame, I like Petrov. Presumably his Russian sponsors want more than a one year commitment, whilst Lotus are looking at better drivers for 2013 but can't afford Sutil?

Still, VP gets a 10/10 for his take off at Malaysia this year.

ROC should be taken with a grain of salt.

Individual results should, but Petrov was uncompetitive throughout :(

I want to see how he shapes up to Raikkonen next year, it will make for an easier gauge of Kimi's performance. Grosjean is still an unknown quantity.

Have Lotus and Kubica quietly parted ways now?
