but anyway, as soon as i saw the pic of how they test the wing, i knew RB's wing will always pass it.

Yes, it's clear the current physical test is inadequate, however, we also know that the Red Bull already fails the test described in 3.17.8. The test is a visual requirement to not "appear to" or be "suspected of" moving whilst the car is in motion. The RB7 100% fails that test.

It also fails this test:-
3.7.1 All bodywork situated forward of a point lying 330mm behind the front wheel centre line, and more than 250mm from the car centre line, must be no less than 75mm and no more than 275mm above the reference plane.

Lastly it fails this test:-
No part having an aerodynamic influence and no part of the bodywork, with the exception of the skid block in 3.13 above, may under any circumstances be located below the reference plane.

Isnt the skid block supposed to be the reference plane?

Yep

Well these photos show the wing very close to the ground but not beneath the reference plane.

You can clearly see the actual skid block and splitter under the front wing.

No, a plane is 2 dimensional. The top of the skid block is on the reference plane.

3.13.1 Beneath the surface formed by all parts lying on the reference plane, a rectangular skid block, with a 50mm radius (+/-2mm) on each corner, must be fitted.

So then would it be correct in saying that the front wing must be at least 50mm above the ground at all times (assuming the skid block is in contact with the tarmac).

nish, from your own pictures...please tell me you see the RB's front wing is MUCH closer to the tarmac than the McLarens?

Of course it is! I would be mad to deny that.

And yet when stationary it's the same height as the McLarens.... It's clearly the whole nose look how low the centre part of the wing is.
The reference plane is not the exact bottom of the floor the plank attached to it.

There is no doubt that the wing is deflecting downwards under load, the questions are:

What is allowing it to deflect to such an extent?
Is this amount of deflection legal?

From the information provided i understand that the reference plane is located immediately above the skid block, so approximately the same height as the splitter. Therefore if the wing dips below the splitter, it would be illegal.

Moveable areo is illegal so a wing dipping period is illegal.

A 20mm flex is allowed for 100N.

I dont know what the full details of the regulation is.

Gotta agree with Nish, there are potentially hundreds of people more qualified(understatement of the year) then us, spending all day working out that wing. Thats what i was saying in my post, not trying to call you lot r-tards, your a very clever bunch. But you dont know half as much as youd like to think on the subject.

The FIA are not kids, they know what theyre doing. Better then we do i must add. This talk of emailing them would definitely warrant the simply reply of : LOL, did you honestly think we didnt know that.

Some of the arguments on the "ban the wing" side arent even coherent on here alone. Buds saying movable aero and a flexing wing is illegal. Therefore Mclarens wing and Ferraris too should be banned, they flex. Wheras others think its purely the tests being inadequate at determining the legality of the wing. Then the other bunch are going purely on pictures of how close the wing is to the floor. Bit of a jumbled argument.

Really?? Cant agree with that on past behaviour.

You and Nish claiming no one here can have their say because they are not experts yet you both throw in your own 2 cents. Sorry but thats just plain old hypocritical of you both!
McLaren and Ferrari wings flex so are illegal? WRONG! This has been discussed over and over again but you obviously missed the explanations given.
The wings of every other team behave on track as they would in the flexing test. They Flex to the allowed amount. Redbull passes this test but the test doesn't allow for the nose to be attached to the car during the test. As pointed out by Spanky.

Spanky, you got any pics or info on how they do the test for bodywork flexibility 3.17.1 ?

I was just presenting evidence. No where did i say the wing is legal or illegal or that the FIA are idiots (as i was condemning).
