I wish Mercedes had the McLaren chrome livery. They took the star driver... why stop there? :hehe:

They can use it now if they want to

They could always swap Martin for Ross

Actually they should hire Whitmarsh and give him a clown suit...make him perform after race winning weekends on stage. Maybe Button could join....make it a threesome with a pole. :groucho:

Now jenson reckons McLaren can take the fight to RBR next season. AND he is looking forward to the 2014 changes all of a sudden.

In fact, he even reckons McLaren can take the fight to Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing in 2014.

"Yes," he said when asked. "It is the simple one to answer. Red Bull have done a great job - they really have to win four championships on the trot.

"But the rules haven't really changed much over these four years, and now they will change a lot.

"I go into 2014 as a team thinking we can win,' Button continued. 'But whether we produce the car or not, that is another question."

Yes Jenson, I believe I can fly, but whether I magic a pair of wings or suddenly overcome gravity, thats another question

Lets face it if any F1 driver says they do not expect to win before the car has hit the track should not be in F1 any more

Yes Jenson at Caterham would say he expected the team to win. and then would turn around and say that depended on the team producing a winning car

Well, it would be more difficult, if not impossible; but, you'd still secretly hope for a small miracle, eh?

Is this the Jenson thread or the McLaren thread? Magnussen is hoping he can repeat Lewis' 2007 season, I would love to see a rookie fighting duking it out in front again.

I think most teams on the grid could throw up a suprise car next year. So I would not be so sure who's going to have a fast car next year

McLaren raised a few eyebrows by opting for the Dane, but sporting director Sam Michael says his arrival has created a buzz at Woking.

"Kevin's arrival is really exciting for the whole team - he represents the future," he said. "When you have a rookie come onboard - somebody who's full of energy, who's just won his lower-category Championship, and who is desperate to prove himself - it creates a buzz within the team; people share his hopes and dreams. From a team point of view, it's a fantastic move."

So there is a new buzz about the team, with the staff galvanised by his hope and dreams. Were they not galvanised, directed and led by their team leader in 2013?
Will this new energy divide efforts next season? Can the the team be focused on the bright rookie and still treat Button like the number 1 driver like they did this season.
Which drivers style and preferences for the new car will direct the evolution and introduction of new parts?
Are they going to allow Mag time to learn from Button or are they going to expect him to challenge from day 1. If so surely he will need more help from the team, maybe the more experienced race engineer as well as Buttons data. Will he get extra help with strategy or will he get the B strategies or will he be left alone with his race engineer to compete with the other side of the garage like Sergio was?

What if Button is more consistent but scoring low points and Mag is less consistent but shows more potential for high points over time? Will they want the consistent mediocrity or will they encourage Mag like they did with Sergio?

Will Button cry on the radio if challenged aggressively by Mag?

Questions that need to be addressed beneath all the PR talk.

If Mag can settle in quickly and start producing the team need to be clear about Buttons role and not allow any of the usual disturbing stuff that wrecks the kids confidence or career like they did with Sergio

Anyone have any idea of how they think McLaren will play this?

I think these rule changes are making a way for younger drivers, that do more than drive as fast as they can, which means certain older drivers like Button, Kimi, Massa and even Alonso may find it difficult. Next year, Mag, Vet, Ham, Gro, Ric and Bot might look more like stars of the future and the present, slicing Ferrari's chances as their drivers are now looking old. My prediction is Red Bull, McLaren Mercedes and Lotus will all finish atop of Ferrari. If McLaren are competitive, Ferrari will not finish more than fourth.
