At the end of the day, Vettel has 3 WDC's and is well on his way to a 4th, while Hamilton won his by a point, with a weak team mate. (Although he was up against it for most of the season, ala Belgium).
Vettel has succeeded in every challenge he has been confronted with. I take solace from the fact that finished that year as the best rookie in 2005, and Hamilton's extra experience showed in that battle. He quite clearly had the best vehicle that year. Otherwise, you would have to admit then that Nico Rosberg, Jamie Green and 2 French guys are better than Hamilton, as they finished ahead of him the same series the year before. It really is ridiculous logic, I feel.
Vettel also had a season where he thoroughly trounced everyone in Junior BMW Series....
I don't really give a crap. It's the nature of F1. Instead of looking for flaws in Hamilton's driving pedigree I acknowledge that he did what a high level racing driver should do. Take your chances. He was given the machinery, and he extracted the maximum out of all his opportunities..
He is also a World Champion, and has continually won races every season since he started in F1. He is easily the 3rd best driver on the grid. I accept the situation that he is in, and acknowledge when he is doing his best.
However, he has lost to Jenson Button as a team mate before. And he could very well lose to Rosberg this year. We'll see though, at the moment he is doing a good job.
Sebastian Vettel is doing what is expected of a triple world champion. 90% of the time they have the best car on the field. Schumacher, Fangio and even Senna all had the best cars. Just so long as they capitalise on their opportunities, and even create opportunities. If Vettel didn't win world championships, then he would be dropped. If Coulthard was still racing for Red Bull and they felt their car needed a world champion, then they would've got Hamilton. But they have Vettel, and he has done the job. They don't need Hamilton or Alonso, so just accept the situation for what it is.
Let's look at Monaco 2011. Vettel won because of a Red Flag. Not his fault, is it? He was presented with an opportunity, and took it. Senna on the other hand, won a world championship crashing someone off the race track - which is a disgrace.
We really don't know how good Vettel is. He could be better that even his fans think, he could be worse than his detractors think. But to say that Webber is the yardstick to measure greatness against or that RBR hasn't had the strongest car 3 out of the last four seasons is not a logical or rational conclusion.
To say Webber is no yardstick, as is often being implied, is just as illogical or irrational.
Especially considering Alonso was considered proven against Trulli and Fisichella (and Hamilton for taking on the 'proven' Alonso).
In qualifying, Webber is more of a yard stick then Alonso (bar Trulli, which whom he tied, not outqualified 2:3) or Hamilton have ever faced.
Vettel has gotten one yard stick, and he shrank it to about two feet. To dismiss that as having proven nothing, is 'foolish'.
