Have you found anywhere in this world where only nice things are said about the people you like? I hate Fox News but I don't sit and watch their channel and demand they stop talking smack about Obama. It just doesn't make sense. Why would it make sense on a forum? I think everyone is tired of CookinFlat6 for the Jenson bashing but it's not like we haven't spent the last five years hearing on this forum from people that hate Lewis or hate Ferrari or hate, Button. You can find someone to hate anyone.

If you are a fan of Button and support him then post things here, in this thread that show your support for him, a pic he posted on Instagram, something he shared on FB, a pretty outfit that Jessica wore, whatever I don't care. But it's just insane to think that you're going to stop people from saying stuff you don't like.

You obviously want to spend time reading posts here, but like RC said you tend to share your views only to complain about the complainers. How is that any better? Active support to drown the din of the crap people that hate Button post is the only way to really make a difference. It's what myself and a handful of others have done for the driver we support and it's worked out pretty well.

I'm not saying this to berate you or to make light ridicule your view on Button, it's just that your tactic of passively influencing the course of this thread hasn't worked, it's not working and guess what? It's not going to work because the only way to have an effect on the thread is to actively contribute. Maybe even you'll get a handful of other Jenson fans to come on and join in your support and your battle against CookinFlat6's rants.

I'm one handful of JB fan, the other handful (Jabberwocky) will be along later!

It was interesting reading Jenson's recent comments about not signing a new contract for McLaren even if a contract is offered. Saying he doesn't want to be in F1 to make up the numbers, he wants to win races and championships, let's face it, it's not like he needs to money and after 15 years, maybe it's time for a fresh challenge, maybe WEC, Mark Webber and Jenson Button would make a very experienced driver pairing, or maybe JB can become a professional triathlon competitor?

Maybe Jenson could have won more if he made different decisions, sticking with BAR for all that time was very detrimental to his career; but I guess it did indirectly lead to his one and only world drivers title. At this point I think that Jenson's passion for F1 is seriously waning, I think walking away now would be better than signing for a lower grid team to extend his F1 career like Damon Hill did when he joined Arrows and later Jordan.

Jenson has left it too late for a lower grid team. Its a shame Alonso has been the driver everyone has been hanging on with almost indecent wooing when their are others in limbo. I am surprised the other teams have not made a similar attempt to grab Button. Force India for example signing Perez when they could have had Button who was preffered over Perez at Mclaren, especially when we consider that Force India rejected Magnus who is preferred over Jenson. Surely if Mclaren dont want him all the other teams should be happy that a top driver is now available and for less.
Williams resigned Massa, and claim that Alonso is too 'advanced' for their position and status, surely they should have snapped up Jenson over Massa who isnt a WDC

Surely the number 1 driver at Mclaren saying he might not accept their offer for a drive even if offered - this should ignite the driver market

Why hasnt it?

Maybe the midfield teams feel that JB is too expensive for their budget, most midfield are only interested in drivers that come with a sponsorship package. Although a move for Jenson to Williams would make me happy, I have had a soft spot for Williams ever since 1991 when I started watch F1 regularly.

Button would have given Williams more points than Massa, for sure. I would have loved seeing Willaims fight the fight with the red bulls some more. These Merc engines can't be all they're cracked up to be if only Mercedes is that far ahead of the rest. Right?

I don't know, maybe JB would; Massa has been disappointing this year in comparison to Bottas, maybe if Williams thought JB was going to be available, they would have attempted to sign him. Sir Frank has spoken well of Button in the past, guess the price would have to be right, can't see Sir Frank ponying up $15m/year.

Well maybe Jenson would have done it for less.

Yeah I have a soft spot for Williams and are seldomly soft for Claire in particular, but F1

Jenson would have got more points than Massa, as long as the car suited him and he didnt go into a slump because the engineers would not have spent time making the car driveable for Jensons sweet spot. The question then is hard to guess if he would have outscored Massa. Massa brings funds and Jenson dos not, Massa is also rumored to be on a thrid of Jensons wage. And then there is the little matter of dragging Frank through the courts. The fact that Frank dug his heels in on a 'spoiler' and had to be compensated by Honda for millions to release Jenson, is unlikely to be forgotten. Unlike McLaren with Alonso there is no Honda this time to pay Jensons wage. And we know that Frank discovered Bottas and so he wont be making way.

So it seems Jenson is not a financial fit for most of the grid. So maybe we can now understand McLarens dilemma at making this big decision

We'll never know... maybe Alonso will mess about too much and McLaren will move to keep Button for 2015, but with JB's comments about not wanting to make up the numbers, maybe he will decide to quit F1 instead. Despite the positive noises coming from McLaren/Honda, we have no idea of how their V6T will perform.

Thing is tho, we all know that the very very best choice for McLaren in the 2 years or so of turning their Honda lump into a Merc beater is - the blackmailer himself. We are gonna use him and he is gonna try and use us. But he will leave no stone unturned to drive and nag and b!tch everyone in the team to making the car a winner. I mean there is a reason Ron employed him in 2007 in the first place. The chap is like pestilence, remorseless, just keeps on going, noone expected him to crumble like he did over Lewis, but that was probably the machismo and pride bllx and he is older now and even more professional.

He is best guy available to for the first 2/3/4 years of the Honda deal, and even if Mclaren dont actually win the tittle in that time, he will drive them to within range, retire, and then lewis can swan back in and claimed to have inspired yet another revival where the MS and Alonsos couldnt

In this scenario, Jenson simply doesnt fit, he is too expensive and too 1 dimensional, shame he hasnt fixed up another gig, as Ron was obviously expecting him to walk

You won't get any argument from me that Alonso is the better driver, I highly rate Alonso, but playing silly buggers with contract negotiations could come back to bite him on the bottom. Of course I would like to see Jenson stay in F1 for 2015 in a car that might provide wins, but I also think after 15 years, now is the time to depart and seek a new challenge, which is what I think he will do no-matter what, his body language during race weekends indicates his love for F1 is all but gone.
#424395
Just a few weeks ago he was saying he's in love with F1 and would most likely be in McLaren anyway since RD said this and said that to him (apparently RD is a Saint and only speaks the truth of what he really thinks)...

JB probably lost his love for F1, but that's after finding out the top 4-5 teams have absolutely no use for him and his unjustified pay packet.
#424396
I don't think that JB expects/ed a £15m salary this time around, regardless of opinions about whether he is worth £15m, if it was offered, would you not take the money, I know for sure that if my boss offered me $15m to stay with the company, I would bite his hand off.

Lets put it this way, Jenson has a capable manager, infact they manage others, so you know that Goddard has spoken to every single team on the grid over the last few months, thats what managers do. The unpalatable truth is that not a single team on the grid wants Jenson, not for 15 mill, not for 10, or 5, possibly not unless he brings some hard currency along. This is the harsh reality of todays F1. Jenson had a good run, the last of the old school 'star' F1 drivers who didnt have to bring sponsors or money and could turn in class performances when they felt the time was right.

When you got Kyviats and Veslappens and Bottas' and Riccs all on less than 1 mill, its easy to understand why there hasnt been a bidding war to secure Jensons services
#424399
I know the reality and I agree with your statements... half the grid are struggling to make it to the grid, let alone hire a driver for £15/10/5m. I'm at peace with JB departing F1 at the end of the season, it's not like he had one season and then ditched before being given a chance like so many other drivers.
