Also, meant to add..

I've had a crack at writin my own sponsor letters, can u read it and tell me what u tink?

Dear (INSERT),

I am Sam Moffat, current Scottish Champion kart racer. I am writing to you, as a local company, to offer you the opportunity of sponsorship.

I started racing 5 years ago, in the cadet class at the age of ten and am now one of the most experienced drivers in Scotland. Below is a summary of my racing achievements to date.

2006
• A.S.K.C Scottish Championships, 3rd (runner-up to British Open Champion)
• Scottish Open, 5th
• Internations Challenge, selected to race for Scotland

2007
• A.S.K.C Scottish Championships, 3rd despite missing one round
• Racing cut short due to broken arm, keeping me away from the circuit for 5 months

2008
• A.S.K.C Scottish Champion, 1st, winning three out of six rounds and on the podium in all but one race
• Scottish Open, 3rd

In 2009, I would like to further my racing career, by competing in the B.R.D.C Stars of Tomorrow or Super One British Championships, however to be competitive I need to secure funding through sponsorship. Lewis Hamilton and David Coulthard competed in these championships before progressing up the motorsport ladder.

In return for sponsorship, I would be able to give you and your company:
• Kart bodywork graphics
• Race suit embroidery
• Van graphics
• Website advertising space
• Local / national newspaper articles
• I would be available for press conferences and media events

Hopefully you will see investing in me as a good opportunity for your company. To discuss sponsorship options contact me on:

The letter is looks good but maybe you should put a ball park figure in of how much you want in sponsorship. Something like "in the range of £500- £1000". As a man that has worked for some of the stingiest managers they don't have a lot of time to to business with someone if they do not know the price.

Thanks 8ball, I'll include it now :P

Last major race this weekend at Wombwell in Barnsely..

Lookin for a decent result, aim is obviously to do well, top 10 would be a fantastic result, considerin I haven't been there before, but top 15 would do :P

*there is a simple rule here. If you address someone by name (e.g. "Dear Mr Campbell"), end with "Yours sincerely". If you address it "Dear Sir", end with "Yours faithfully". Other than that your grammar is OK but not perfect - a little comma-happy. I'd be quite happy to proof-read your final letter. Overall though, it's a very good professional letter.

Thanks guys, help is really appreciated :)

I've been told that keeping it short is good 'cos it means less time for managers to read, so I tried to keep it to a minimal..

Now the task of printer them all off, and firing them out to about 10 or so potentials, to see what I get..

In my national potentials, Irn Bru and Arnold Clark have been added, I hope they can realise my Scottish heritage :P

I've been rejected from highland Spring, but at least I got a reply.. They blamed it on the credit crunch, I hate gordon Brown!

Thanks 1lap, help is really appreciated :)

I have been :banghead: trying to think of whom I could send your letter out to? My issue is trying to think of companie's that have a european/Scottish enfluence? Oh what the heck I'm gonna just start emailing as many companie's who have an international enfluence and even those who dont, can you say RACING SPAM!!!!!! Yah baby!!!!

Sam when you can adjust your letter as 'onelapdown' suggest, as a base format, so I can start emailing ok?

Prosecute Gordon Brown for treason, stopping a fellow Scot like you. :P

Sam get a SET format you want to be sentout along with a picture portfolio. I also noticed that your address does not seem complete to me?
Address: 45 Gean Road, Alloa, Clacks

Shouldn't there be more info such as Scotland atleast?

Get all this stuff set and done mate and I will email my arse off for you ok?
The more comprehensive info you provide the less work it will be for a potential sponsor. Also there may be a slight opportunity to get referal's from a potential sponsor who does not want to take part, remember it's not what you know but who you know, so they could/may offer the name's of potential sponsor's.

You should get the whole portfolio together and then you can email me the whole deal so I can attach the pic's to the letter's I sendout.

Just had a little brainwave which may or may not be useful but something to think about...

As you're probably aware lots of companies have team-building away days, and some of these involve kart races. My father went on one once with his company where each company entered a team of four or five drivers. Perhaps you could look into the possibility of renting a circuit and organising one of these events as a fundraiser for you, with you on hand during the day to give tips on how to drive a kart, how to drive the circuit, etc. Having the Scottish Kart Champion on hand would be a good selling point, and it would put you in face-to-face contact with many potential sponsors, who would get to see you strut your stuff first hand.

Obviously these events are more usually arranged for the benefit of the track itself or possibly a company that rents the track for these events, so you're first decision would be whether you would want to make a profit on the event itself, or simply break even, or possibly even use it as a loss-leader, i.e. make a loss on the day in the hope that added sponsorship revenue later on makes it worthwhile in the long run.
