It was to help pirelli understand the tyres more with the current regs,hence use of a 2013 car,also it was help develop tyres for the future,but this is ilrelavant to the new tyres that were introduced because they have designed them for safety,hence the need of another test before they were introduced in Hungary,the other tyres pirelli tested with merc were like a 'work in progress,2014 tyres' if pirelli stay,the tyres merc tested were prototype tyres pretty much,and have not been used during the season.
