Ted Kravitz was very unfair on Perez in his notebook thingie. Seemed to forget it was a fair fifty fifty fight.
He then alluded to the Telmex big bosses being there and a good result for Perez being useful if Mlaren are to have them as title sponsors. I sincerely hope he's wrong in what he's alluding to!

well even if the presence of Slim did anything to the team, it was probably only to allow Sergio to challenge Button for the first time this season.
Even then - first pitstop Sergio was close to Button, stops 2 laps later looses 2 or 3 places more as a result, that was probably selfish lame duck staying out longer than planned and Sergios slot messed up.

Same as the other races Sergio was never far off before the team started using him as a guniea pig.

The team dont need to give Sergio extra help - he is braver than Jenson and thats worth a lot of time round a track, and now he has the confidence and now Jenson will be doing what we saw at that cringingly awful Sky show - trying to politick his way past Sergio off track, but maybe Whitmarsh has come out of his man crush 'phase' and Slims dollars are disturbingly more attractive than Butt on

Oh that's Ted Kravitz?? I was like "Who is this total p**ck???" lol

I think that's who it is. I asked previously who the guy running around after the race talking to himself was, and I think that's the name.

Whitmarsh might not be a complete **** afterall. it could be that he is just the weakest team boss ever and has let certain staff walk all over him.
Well he can certainly redeem himself by doing the right thing this season towards Sergio, maybe give up this year if the European phase doesnt completely turn the car around, concentrate on next year and let the 2 race, forgetting the dream of arranging the WDC for his machiavellian lame duck

Cant wait to read lewis' next column

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! jenson calling his team mate in the fourth race becuaes he dared to overtake him! he said good driving from everyone but Sergio :yikes: I didnt think my thoughts about Button could drop any lower but they just have!!:censored:

Well Perez did hit him during the race and could have easily have taken Button out. Button being pissed is understandable.

Perez admits he was too “aggressive” and “risky” on track

Martin Whitmarsh had previously told him to stick his elbows out and toughen up, and Sergio Perez certainly did so in today’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
However the Mexican has admitted that at times he was perhaps too aggressive and risky on track, particularly when racing team-mate Jenson Button. The Brit asked the team to “calm him down” over team radio after Perez made slight contact with him whilst battling in the midfield.

Perez went on to finish in sixth place, four places ahead of Jenson Button. Talking in a team statement Perez said “I guess I was a little aggressive on track today; banging wheels with Jenson was perhaps a little too risky, a little too hard, but the team never came on the radio to tell is to stop racing. There were no team orders.

“There was a lot of adrenaline from both of us, and Jenson is always a very strong race, but hopefully we’ll help each other a little more in the future.”

Button echoed claims that he was perhaps too tough on track, saying “But there was a lot of clean racing out there too – although as I say Checo was a bit tough, which was a little unusual.”

However it was all happy families after the race with sixth place man saying “He was calm and friendly after the race, though, which was great; but that isn’t surprising because he’s a great guy as well as a great driver.”

Describing his race he said “That was an incredible race – really enjoyable. I have to thank the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team first of all – we’ve been through some difficult times recently, but they kept on supporting me. All in all, it’s been a solid weekend – we got pretty much the maximum from the car, ran a great strategy, looked after the tyres, and scored some very useful points.”

Button had a difficult race overall and finished where he started in tenth place. He was dueling with Perez and Hamilton for fifth, sixth and seventh but a late pit stop dropped him down the order after he ran out of grip with worn tyres.

Reflecting on a tough 57 laps he said “Today wasn’t brilliant for me. Okay, the race was a lot of fun, but I didn’t get the result I wanted because I used up my tyres fending off Checo.

“There was a lot of action out there, and as I say I wasn’t really able to conserve my tyres as a result. That was partly because I had to work my way back through after my second pitstop, when I’d been fighting with Romain (Grosjean).”

Martin Whitmarsh certainly enjoyed watching the race from his pit wall perch, saying “The 2013 Gulf Bahrain Grand Prix was a fantastic motor race, and I’m sure it was hugely entertaining for the tens of millions of viewers who watched it at home as well as for those lucky enough to be here at Sakhir to see it for real.”

However there were some tense moments when his two drivers were racing, and racing very closely indeed. He spoke on that very subject and said “The two of them spent much of the afternoon in close proximity to each other – sometimes in nail-bitingly close proximity actually – but that’s motor racing. Both Jenson and Checo are fast, forceful and hungry for success – and that’s exactly how it should be. It’s called racing, and we at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes always allow our drivers to race. It’s what this sport is all about having said that, it’s probably fair to say that Checo was a little too combative with Jenson this afternoon, and I think he knows that.”

Yeah that was Ted rummaging around for leftover scraps from the Merc canteen and talking to himself.

Just a note of caution - Sergio drove a great race, but the reaction if he had hit his teammates tire a fraction harder and given JB a puncture and knocked off a bit more of his front wing imagine the criticism he'd of got!

Thin line between hero and zero in F1

@Andrew they were both agressive they were racing. And it's credit to McLaren that they let them Race. no real need though for Jenson to come out and start having a go at him in the interview. He said there was good racing from everyone except Sergio. No need for that! yes unfortunately Sergio touched him, but Jenson was going very slow on the apex and Sergio was clearly the faster driver. And Jenson ran Sergio off the road. Fifty fifty. Stop crying Jenson!!

He said there was no need for banging wheels which he is quite right in saying. Perez could have easily have taken them both out. Button also gave creditto Perez for getting 6th. he's not crying, he's just speaking sense in a matter of fact way.

Heck, Perez has since said he was too aggresive and risky but what would he know?

Yeah, but to be fair, Button never held his hands up and admitted to running Perez of the track..... So he isn't that innocent.

He didn't hit him though. Therein lies the difference.

Oh ok, you can break the rules, just don't hit anyone. Cool.

That's the Checo we've been waiting to see!

Damn right mate! :clap::clap::clap:

Was loving Sergio's performance today, even if, at times, things almost got messy

No rules were broken or a penalty would have been issued.

It was Buttons fault he got hit by Sergio anyway

He took an ultra defensive line into the corner and slowed more than normal anticipating Sergio would overshoot round his left side, so Jenson was driving defensively and risked an accident to stay ahead.

just like 2011 when he cynically stuck lewis in the wall then was crying on the radio 'what is he doing'

This time Jenson was screaming for TEAM ORDERS and didnt get them. There was no 2 stop strategy for Jenson today, he was outdriven and out muscled by young Sergio, who not only dispatched Button but also Alonso and Webber yet managed his tyres to avoid 4 stopping like Jenson.
