That doesn't look good

Wow when did that happen?

It will be a lot less demanding on the drivers than before from a driving skill perspective.

That is highly debatable... Trying to push a car as quickly as you can with worn tyres that slide all over the place AND without knackering them further, versus nailing it round close to (but not on) the limit with a car that is working nicely and is far easier to drive?

It'll be more of a challenge to drive, they'll have less grip, could spin, slide etc easier.

If the tyres drop of that much, it might work out as a game between conserving tyres v pitting for fresh ones, if a driver is so far of their pace, they'll just pit for fresh rubber and make up that time quickly.

It also opens up the potential for drivers to drive around, some will find better grip at certain times, and the fact the drivers are managing the tyres will be open to attack from brave drivers who decide to go gung-ho and rely on their driving skills to keep them on the track despite aggressive driving.

It's quite similar to what you get in wet races, that has an extreme lack of grip, tyres also go off pretty quickly. But how does it work out in wet races? Do we see drivers just trundle around making sure they don't go off? Well, a lot do, but these guys are racers, and competitors. If you know the guy in front isn't comfortable, and just managing, then a fair few drivers will take the risk to attack.

First day of testing this week I think.

I'd rather see the drivers flat out than trundling around off the pace , however dramatic it might look. Futher quote from the tyre article

"Controlling low-grip oversteer is just a tiresome, easy bore for them. But from the outside it looks great".

Drivers can't push on these tyres and have to drive around way off the pace
"It's not racing" said lewis ,"It's just driving around."

Really?
then how come we all "love" the wet races??????

I think you missed the point  . Is a driver in the wet not pushing his wet's to the maximum grip his package allows??

They'll still be aiming to produce the fastest overall time possible,

It just means the balance will switch (I think) to long game strategy, rather than doing a great 1 lap quali and getting a good start.

If one driver can manage their tyres better, so goes faster overall, then a driver initially quick but uses up the rubber, I'd say fair play to them.

I guess your in favour of driver aids as well?

Same case with worn tires.

"It will be a lot less demanding on the drivers than before from a driving skill perspective."

That's a pretty disingenuous claim. It's only true if you define "driving skill" so narrowly as to be virtually meaningless. It seems a lot of people have their minds stuck in 2008. F1 is not a serious of sprints any more, it's a marathon. That doesn't make it easier, just different. There's just as much skill in managing the longevity of a car as there is in driving the doors off one very briefly.

Well nots get be silly, it might be a marathon this year, might, but it never has been more of a marathon then a sprint in the past, speed has had an until now unchallenged reign over F1. Id say driving skill is totally what individuals believe it is, like your reasons for jens over lewis or myself Prost over Senna. Theres no point trying to change peoples mind to your idea of thinking (which isnt unique, others share it, OR wrong) but you wont change your mind, or wouldnt, if someone told you it was a sprint and not a marathon, each to their own. i say. Itd be better if the statement you quoted said i think rather then it will, too many people on here pass their opinions off as fact, purposely or sub consciously.

Last bits spot on though, if Jenson was just that tad bit faster in racing and moreso quali, he could easily beat Hamilton. But the same can be said, if Hamilton was just that bit kinder to his car, Jenson would be nowhere. its all a trade off in the end.

No-one will be doing 4 stops - leave out ridiculous circumstances.

I've pointed this out earlier in the thread, but they have been testing in temperatures well outside of the tyres' intended operating windows, so they're not going to react in the same way as they would during a grand prix. There's an interview with Webber somewhere and he points out that there were fears about the Bridgestones falling apart and needing three or four stops during testing for 2010, but we all know what happened when it came time to race...
