But that's the point - regardless of who his team mate is - Button is also doing what his car is capable of, or on occasion slightly more (two 4th place finishes - three really if you include Australia). Aside from beating his rookie team mate, which he is, what else can he do? Again - who in the top six should he be consistently beating as things stand?

Not praising somebody is completely different to actively bashing them with no real justification in a racing sense.

Again - I'm not a Button fan as such, if I had to pick my two favourite drivers on the grid, by a tiny margin I would probably pick Alonso and Hamilton, because I genuinely think they are the two clear talents out there, I just think the bashing is unjustifiable.

WB; by your own reckoning; if Rosberg or Hamilton qualify on pole and take a lights to flag victory, then they shouldn't be praised because it's what they are expected to do given they have the far and away most dominant car?!?!...

I think that Button is doing a fair job in 2014 as is Rosberg and Hamilton given the cars underneath them, frankly a lot of the Button bashing is left over annoyance from many Hamilton fans for the perceived treatment of their driver; when the pair were team mates, no-one cared or really talked about Button before his world championship winning season and the majority of the talk has been negative even when JB has driven well. Fair enough, he is doing what is expected of him, but it's always negative reaction from many of the forumites, instead of saying nothing or saying he did what was expected.

100% correct - you've perhaps put it more eloquently than I was able to.

Great race today, if a bit shocking to see the difference in spectator passion between Silverstone and Hockenheim. Oh well at least bernie wasnt delayed at the border

Rosberg - drove well, got the points - lucky the safety car didnt enter the mix, I really dont think he would have won had the safety car been deployed rite after his finall stop for fresh options. Its a good story, home race win, except no one there seems to care much for Nico or Seb compared to MS

Massa - again showing his amazing lack of situational awareness. Too busy looking at his teammate, he makes the cardinal sin of not being aware of the dynamic of others, completely his fault, he didnt see him and should have, avoidable accident, and with his experience should be wiser. He would be fined and then sacked by Williams for that if possible

Lewis - fantastic drive, a bit disappointing as together with the team they did the best possible, he should have had his safety car, Merc did the right strategy but Bernie thru charlie has given the Germans a nice show.

Alonso - greatstuff, always great to watch him, its a criminal outrage that this guy is on a huge paycheck instead of in a competitive car

Ricc - very good attitude, good racing, no crashing or losing it

Seb - needs to be smarter with strategies etc

Mag - great driver, just 1 point behind his teammate despite starting at the back after Massas clumsiness

Button - Ron is almost always correct, he says Button should be beating Mags soundly, but he is not able to do this on merit. Only when Mag has issues is Button close to him on performance. Button is only a little ahead. Its great to have a driver who gets points but McLaren need a driver like they always had before, who can do what a few drivers were doing today - getting 100% out of the car and using race craft to make up for the difference - the ones who were on the move forward, who were involved in close and hard fights, like Ricc, Seb, Alonso, Hulk, Perez, not the ones like Button who was overtaken so much his rearview mirrors got worn out (that was Brundles joke lol).
Button gains when others drop out, thats fine in a back grid team, but in McLaren he gets 1 point more than his teammate who qualified 4th and started from the back effectively

And the incident with Lewis - completely Buttons fault and confirms his self serving sneakiness. As Lewis said and as we have seen Button was jumping out of the way of Lewis all season, like he does for everyone who is not his teammate. Obviously since Ron threatened him, he is now back to the rat like behaviour. I reckon he was hoping Lewis would take the two of them off so he had a great excuse

Anyway for those people pointing out how Button is closely ahead of his rookie teammate, the point is the rookie can only get better, Jenson cant, so its not rocket science to work out that when factoring future potential and previous experience, Mag is absolutely wiping the floor with Button. This is ofcourse before we even get on to the small matter of 15million a year vs sponsorship for Skandinavian stores Jack and Jones.

Button wont be there next year

Once again, the revised Hockenheim circuit throws up an excellent Grand Prix, with lots of action to discuss.

Plenty of overtaking, these cars are giving us much more entertainment than last season, I hope Luca is acknowledging this!

Frustrating incident at the first corner, Magnussen lost a lot of points, as of course did Massa. McLaren would most likely have jumped Force India in the standings had it not happened. Good to see Williams move ahead of Ferrari though, that'll put a smile on Sir Frank's face.

So MUCH overtaking! That dice between Alonso and Ricciardo was the highlight!

I was also wondering why no safety car??

Isn't it obvious, that would've played right into Lewis' hands but everyone's against him so....... No safety car. Maybe the stewards or Charlie don't like his fans either geet.

Perhaps! They should have deployed it anyway because rosberg still would have won

Wow, that's one hell of jump; Jenson is entitled to take whatever line he wants through the corner while the driver behind is responsible for avoiding the collision... Lewis himself took responsibility for the incident, for misreading the situation, but yet you somehow managed to turn that around to demean Button again.

Button wont be there next year

Honda really like Jenson; being a former driver of theirs and part of the deal to supply factory engines might well be that Jenson remains for at least one more season!

How many cruisy wins for Nico now?

One... He didn't have a challenge with his team mate having to get though the traffic.

How many for Hamilton, three (not counting Silverstone as Rosberg had a mechanical issue) so on that basis I could say none for Rosberg

Sent from my Nexus 4

You know what cruisy means?

Begs belief that the SC was never deployed to remove Sutil's stranded Sauber. Remember Tom Pryce? F1 cannot compromise safety and cut corners for fear of ruining the show and that could've gone badly wrong. Sure the car was removed in the end but no way was that safe. A homer decision perhaps?

Massa is very good at blaming others for his indiscretions. Magnussen didn't do a lot wrong there and neither did Lewis when he unnecessarily apologised for the clash with Jenson. Quite clearly Lewis was trying to be diplomatic and nothing more. As far as Jenson goes, Ron hires and fires drivers as he wishes. I hate to be negative but unless he raises his game significantly, he is bound to be shown the door at the end of the season, especially when you consider the money he's on.

You have no proof of this at all, and the evidence points to the opposite

How many former drivers do you think Honda have had? how many have they actually won things with? they really like Jenson? - who is this 'they'? Arai? does he know Button personally? Are the guys in the same positions in Japan from 8 years ago?

Lets use some logic here please, your case is built on Honda having an emotional need to rehire a guy who drove for them all the years of wasting money with no results leading to their quitting F1 losing face. So they gonna do a Ferrari and insist Jenson is part of the deal for engines in 2015?

Ok if that is the case, surely McLaren would have already secured Jensons services for 2015? Would they risk losing him to Ferrari or someone else who is apparently just waiting in the wings? Would they risk disappointing their important new partner Honda? That argument is as flawed as Jensons sense of urgency once he has a contract signed.

'Honda really like Jenson':rofl: I just dont understand why Jensons followers refuse admit the truth and go into an irrational appraisal that has little bearing on reality, a bit like the late insidious TP who wouldm giggle and burst into tears if jenson finsihed 5th from 14th on the grid in the fastest car

Nobody knows the inside dealings at McLaren; maybe it's Jenson that is considering his options before signing? Jenson is very popular in Japan and Honda are in it for the brand recognition and promotion; their not in it for the sport aspect. Why would you not want a popular driver (in their home country and around the World) in a race seat. We will find out next season who is right or wrong; if it's the end of the line for Jenson, then so it; at least I won't have to listen to the consistent moaning about him come rain or shine.

It felt like a little slice of the '80s. All we needed was somebody to jump out of their car to see if Massa was okay aswell. Not that anyones cares enough.
